INFINITE’s member Kim Sungkyu has shared the secret behind maintaining a controversy-free career in the often scandal-prone entertainment industry. He talked about how he has managed to remain active in the K-pop industry for so long without any major controversies since his debut in June 2010. “I don’t really drive, and I’m not that interested in cars,” he said with a laugh.
“In my everyday life, I don’t really think of myself as a star or a K-pop singer. I try to stay humble. While preparing for INFINITE’s recent concert, I realized that there are people who waited for us for such a long time. If I don’t repay that love, that would be really wrong.”
He also shared a quote that resonated deeply with him. “Not long ago, I watched a YouTube video where Tablo from Epik High was asked what kind of singer he wanted to be remembered as. He said, ‘I’d be grateful just to be remembered.’ I really related to that. Being remembered at all already feels like too much. The fact that someone like me could be remembered by anyone… Still, if there’s something I hope for, it’s that someday when people listen to my music, even just one song might give them a certain feeling or a bit of comfort. Even if it’s only for a small number of people.”
Sungkyu added that he hopes people will remember him simply as “someone who works hard.” “I don’t have a specific title I want,” he said. “Since I was young, my goal was simple: to become successful enough to make a living doing what I love. Thankfully, I was able to achieve that by joining INFINITE. My next goal is to become an artist who can continue to give people the same emotions even after many years; someone whose music preserves the feelings I had at my peak.”
