Actor Cha Eunwoo has once again proven his undeniable value. In the series, he appears at every key moment, leaving a strong impression and driving its global success. By maximizing his signature fresh, pure charm while naturally handling action sequences and emotional performances, he has expanded his acting range even further.
The Netflix series The WONDERfools, released on the 15th, tells the story of four ordinary residents of Haeseong City who unexpectedly gain superpowers at the end of 1999. It follows their struggle against villains threatening the town’s peace after acquiring their abilities. In its second week of release (May 18–24), it recorded 7.9 million views (total watch time divided by the series’ total runtime) and ranked No. 2 on the Global Top 10 TV Shows (Non-English) chart.
Cha Eunwoo plays Lee Unjeong, a character with telekinetic powers. He is one of the survivors of the "Wunderkinder Project," an experiment that created people with superpowers. In the present, he lives as a civil servant in Haeseong City. He convincingly portrays a man carrying a heavy past through his sorrowful eyes and detached demeanor. Even the scene of him smoking a cigarette while wearing a tank top in his room feels naturally compelling thanks to his unique aura.
Above all, Cha Eunwoo’s greatest strength is his irreplaceable atmosphere. It is rare to find an actor who can simultaneously convey boyish charm, decadent appeal, pure freshness, and melancholy. His ability to dominate cool scenes not through dialogue but through his eyes and facial expressions is a weapon unique to him.
In particular, whenever Eun Chaeni, who gained immortality after a childhood heart transplant, faces mortal danger, Lee Unjeong appears to save her — evoking classic hero narratives. He gradually opens his heart to Chaeni, who calls him “Master,” and ultimately risks everything, even his life, to protect her. This pure-hearted aspect further maximizes the character’s appeal.
Some viewers criticized the romance between Unjeong and Chaeni as “unnecessary.” However, it is Cha Eunwoo who ultimately makes it convincing. Rather than over-emphasizing the emotions, he naturally conveys the shift in their relationship through subtle expressions, atmosphere, and eye acting alone.

Recently, Cha Eunwoo found himself at the center of controversy after it was revealed that he had received a tax assessment from the National Tax Service. Initial reports mentioned a scale of around 20 billion KRW, but the actual amount was reportedly about 13 billion KRW, which he has fully paid. One source noted, “Cha Eunwoo has been physically and mentally exhausted over the past few years,” adding, “It’s hard to see him as being in a state where he could evade taxes.”
