🎙誰がBTSを「アジアのスター」と呼ぶのでしょうか。

アジア音楽だけを区別して別に賞を与えるというアメリカの音楽賞『グラミー』が、BTSの超大型ワールドツアーで実力と人気を証明しました。

アメリカ・ニュージャージーのコンサートでは、約8万人のARMYが集まり、合唱する光景が演出されました。

すぐにアルバム収録曲がビルボードチャートで逆走し、7人のメンバーの衣装とアクセサリーはチャリティーオークションで4億3000万ウォンで落札され、話題を呼びました。

そして2週間後、BTSは同じ場所に戻ってきました。

続いてタイトル曲『SWIM』ではBTSファンのARMYの『大合唱』が繰り広げられました。

Okay so I think it's important to point this out and I'm glad that this conversation is now taking place outside of the fandom too.

The Recording Academy's "Asian Pop" category did not appear out of nowhere. It's the latest step in a pattern that has been building for years and ARMY has been warning about it long before anyone else was paying attention.

For years, we've questioned the way BTS has been repeatedly placed into "K-pop" categories by Western award shows and platforms. Not because BTS is ashamed of being Korean, but because "K-pop" is not a musical genre in the way pop, hip-hop, rock, or R&B are. It is an industry label. BTS's discography spans hip-hop, pop, R&B, alternative, EDM, rock, jazz, folk, and so much more. Reducing all of that to "K-pop" says NOTHING about the music itself.

Think about it: there is no "European Pop" category. There is no "American Pop" category. So why should artists be categorized by where they come from or the language they sing in rather than by the music they create?

The same mindset has shown up across the industry. Dedicated "K-pop" playlists have grouped together songs solely because they're in Korean, even when they belong to completely different genres. BTS' albums with diverse musical styles have been shelved under "K-pop" as though language alone defines the sound. That has always been the issue.

So no, the Recording Academy's "Asian Pop" category is not some shocking, isolated decision. It is the culmination of years of treating Asian artists as a separate lane instead of simply recognizing them as artists. The only difference is that now the segregation has become impossible to ignore.

And maybe it's finally becoming obvious why ARMY has been saying for years: BTS isn't asking to be separated. They're asking to be judged by the same standards as everyone else.
