One of my favorite instructional strategies, teach the teachers. Student teacher Mr.Blair ran through his lesson this week during PD with a rambunctious group of teachers. We all learned something new and laughs were had by all @ClintonMoCards
Leaders are not born their made. I love the point of the year when I can just sit back and let the students take over. I haven’t had to speak in the last ten minutes and the amount of respect and collaboration has been magical to watch. #calendar@HenryElementary@ClintonMoCards
Ss who lacks some social skills told me today: “Miss. L I saw them fighting over a pillow and I told them to stop, think, reframe. And they solved their problem.”
I ❤️ social skills instruction.
End of the year means cleaning out untouched areas of my classroom. I found this during my clean out time. @steph1jackson what a great idea!! It warmed my heart to be reminded of these sweet messages.
Found this book at a garage sale today. It called to me as something that would strengthen me as a leader. I have mounds of laundry scattered around me, but I can’t resist to try the first chapter.
Room 102 firsties combined earth day and kindergarten day. Students were challenged to create and gift useful things for their old kinder teachers to to use out of materials that would have been thrown away. @ClintonMoCards
Sometimes kids can do amazing things if you take a the time to get out of the way. These girls created their own play during free Friday time and then performed it for the class. Lots of giggles and crafting was had in room 102. @ClintonMoCards
Best gift I will get all year! This fourth grader said that he used to not like writing but now loves it because he sometimes gets to choose his genre.
@IMSEOG do you have a good system to track weekly spelling test data by green and red word. I want to be able to see what to review but I haven’t figured out to how to efficiently compile data from ss tests.
So blessed to be learning more about Ortan Gillingham from @IMSEOG. Proud to be in a district that provides these opportunities for teachers. @ClintonMoCards#alwayslearning
This is why we HAVE to change the narrative. Reading the pictures IS reading. Wordless books ARE books. I am the teacher I will teach decoding strategies at the rate each SS needs, but from the moment they walk into my room they are all capable readers. #IAMREADING@Mattglover123
A dear very expert teacher sent me a message about SOR that got me thinking. SOR does not encourage guessing based on pictures. Here is a screenshot on how I incorporate both SOR and also the joy of reading interesting books. It’s all about balance.
