@BluenoserGalNS They pulled (or tried) a stunt last minute stating Trump would be allowed/able to drop 50% tariffs on Canada despite any agreement. So basically, if Trump gets pissed, all deals are off and 50% goes on... No fucking way should Canada have to live under that threat!
And there you have it. Howard Lutnick swoops in, makes last minute demands and kills thousands of negotiating hours. The lack of discipline within the Trump regime is brutal
This is going to be a Massive escalation 🔥
🇺🇸Trump: "From today 50% tariffs on Canada. Cars, booze, dairy, wine, hockey sticks, cement. Pay up Now."
🇨🇦Carney: "We’re ready. We don’t care about You. Illegal tariffs won’t stop us. We’re doubling exports outside the US. We’ll protect our workers.
Canada will impose matching tariffs on American goods “dollar for dollar.”" 🔥🔥
Basically, Canada is DITCHING Trump 💪
Canada PM Mark Carney is now become most popular leader in Canada due to his spine 💪
What this means now:
- No immediate impact on USMCA which remains intact until at least 2036
- 50% U.S. tariff on roughly $28 billion of Canadian goods including dairy, alcohol, electronics, furniture, building materials, plastics, textiles, toys, cosmetics, and more - including on USMCA-compliant goods
- Canada will retaliate dollar-for-dollar with matching tariffs on an equivalent value of U.S. goods
- Exactly what federal supports will become available for impacted workers and businesses is yet to be seen
- Provincial-level responses (ex. American alcohol off shelves) will likely occur in the coming days
Well done, Prime. Minister. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Canada clearly made a serious, good faith effort to get greater stability and market access, and remains ready to find a fair, balanced agreement.
But we are not cravenly surrendering in the face of constant economic and political aggression.
Responding to the new US tariffs with counter tariffs is exactly the right thing to do at this time.
People in the Trump Administration keep expressing outrage that Canada is the only country in the world apart from China to retaliate against US tariffs.
Damn right we are. Makes me proud to be Canadian.

Lamine Yamal on Lionel Messi after Spain’s FIFA World Cup triumph over Argentina.
🗣️ Lamine Yamal: “Tonight I lifted the World Cup for Spain, but I also experienced something I’ll tell my children one day. The man who once held me as a baby was standing on the other side of the pitch, fighting for the same dream. Football has a beautiful way of bringing stories full circle.”
“When I looked at Messi after the final whistle, I didn’t just see an opponent. I saw the player who made millions of kids, including me, believe football could be art. I saw the man whose videos I watched over and over, trying to copy things that nobody else could do.”
“I know this defeat will hurt him. You don’t play with that much passion, carry your country again and again, and lose a World Cup final without feeling pain. Even in defeat, he kept demanding the ball, creating chances and refusing to stop believing. That’s what champions do.”
“People will talk about Spain winning this World Cup, and they should. But they’ll also remember that, at an age when most legends have already retired, Messi was still making the world’s best defenders panic every time he touched the ball. That’s extraordinary.”
“The photo of Messi bathing me became one of football’s most iconic images. Today we took another picture together, but this time I could thank him face to face. Without players like him, kids like me wouldn’t dare dream this big.”
“One day another generation will replace mine too. That’s football. But there will never be another Lionel Messi. Records can be broken and trophies can be won, but inspiring an entire generation to fall in love with the game is something only a few people in history will ever achieve.”
“Tonight belongs to Spain. Tomorrow, the debates will continue. But my respect for Lionel Messi will never change. He didn’t need to win this final to prove who he is. For me, he’ll always be one of the greatest players football has ever seen, and sharing the pitch with him was a privilege I’ll carry for the rest of my life.”

I live in Alberta, every August for the last 6-7 years our skies have been orange and our air thick with smoke from California wildfires.
Not once did we threaten or even blame America.
@alreadydawn You wearing your jacket during summer shows that you were around very early in the morning cuz by noon the weather would be very comfortable. It all depends on what narrative you want to tell.
