DONT LET UP like they want you to. Undocumented & LGBTQIA communities must continue to uplift Black activists within our Undocumented & LGBTQ communities. The same police that target and murder Black people, deport & harass us too!
Yes I’m relieved. But It is not lost on me that this (#DACA) & last weeks positive decisions on LGBTQ protections are coming out in the midst of a national rebellion led by Black people fighting state violence
For years, these decisions were expected (by experts & activists) to be negative. This is an attempt to appease more tensions & curtail anymore commonality & cross- solidarity between some of the most oppressed populations in this country.
Remember that for every single citizen that is hit by rubber bullets, beaten with a baton, gassed, or trampled there is a mayor who signed off on it.
List those mayors below and let’s make sure this is the end of their careers.
#NeverForget
@freejohno @meggie_gates I was today years old when I caught on to the genius of “chocolate rain” but it got played by hackers on the cop scanners in Chicago while people continued to protest and it’s now my favorite song 🤷🏽♀️
For those keeping score at home:
The President refused to invoke the Defense Production Act to mobilize and save lives quickly against COVID-19.
But he didn't hesitate to invoke the 1807 Insurrection Act to deploy the military on American streets against protests.
I work at Facebook and I am not proud of how we’re showing up. The majority of coworkers I’ve spoken to feel the same way. We are making our voice heard.
Tomorrow @ 7:30pm ET on @WBAI 99.5 FM @yannygmn & @dannylucia4 speak w/Erin Neff, a housing attorney in #NYC & organizer with @housing4allNY. Erin will speak how #rentstrikes have helped win the housing laws we have today and argue for why they are necessary again in this crisis.
There is a spectrum of racism. And today we see, it starts with Amy Cooper and ends with George Floyd. It is ALL toxic. The next time a black person tells you of racism believe them. Don’t ask for proof, ask how to help, and stand by their side in that change. #BlackLivesMatter
Always remember that Amy Cooper told Christian Cooper, a Black man, that she was calling the cops and "I'm going to tell them there's an African American man threatening my life."
She told him that she was going lie. And she knew that she was threatening his life.
AmyCooper is still lying if she claims she isn’t racist. What she did is a textbook example of how systemic racism operates. She was never fearful. She wanted to use her status as a white woman & the assistance of police as a racist institution to inflict violence on a Black man.
Y’all the electoral system is not the extent of our power. Our labor is actually our greatest point of leverage if folks would be willing to work together in solidarity instead of worshiping the ownership class that oppresses us & makes sure our votes amount to little change.
