It means they copy the DNA of another species and lay eggs!

So, basically they're giving birth to other species of ants which are clones. The Queen does this because they need the males of the second species to reproduce, but they don't live together.

The Messor genus of harvester ants are known for their unusual reproductive behaviors, and they're often so genetically complex and diverse it makes them difficult to identify apart from each other.
