truly cannot imagine watching the pitt, a show carried on the backs of its female characters, especially the women of colour, and coming away from it only caring about white men yaoi
i, as a lesbian, am gonna give yall a new masterdoc
youre a lesbian if:
a) youd rather sit naked on a hot grill than have sex with a man
b) marrying a man and coming home to him every day sounds like a villain origin story to you
das it.
can’t believe we opted for 1984 dystopia (surveillance and denial of historical fact) and Fahrenheit 451 dystopia (erosion of literacy) instead of Brave New World dystopia (everyone gets fucked up on government-sanctioned drugs and goes to the movies all the time)
I get he’s hot we all have eyes but it’s crazy how this young man has been essentially framed without evidence, is facing POTENTIAL DEATH PENALTY and the only thing you bitches have to say is “omg top me king” like HUHH??? Save it omfg
Sadly, the US Academy, which awarded us an Oscar three weeks ago, declined to publicly support Hamdan Ballal while he was beaten and tortured by Israeli soldiers and settlers.
The European Academy voiced support, as did countless other award groups and festivals. Several US Academy members—especially in the documentary branch—pushed for a statement, but it was ultimately refused. We were told that because other Palestinians were beaten up in the settler attack, it could be considered unrelated to the film, so they felt no need to respond.
In other words, while Hamdan was clearly targeted for making No Other Land (he recalled soldiers joking about the Oscar as they tortured him), he was also targeted for being Palestinian—like countless others every day who are disregarded. This, it seems, gave the Academy an excuse to remain silent when a filmmaker they honored, living under Israeli occupation, needed them the most.
It’s not too late to change this stance. Even now, issuing a statement condemning the attack on Hamdan and the Masafer Yatta community would send a meaningful message and serve as a deterrent for the future.
Dactylic hexameter– what The Odyssey was originally written in– is a fucking nightmare to attempt to translate into English. The specific type of meter doesn't affect the narrative, so any poetic meter can be used. Using one that English speakers already associate with classical text like Wilson has done (Iambic pentameter) gives us the flowing, musical pace of the original text in a way that feels natural.
Writing a translation with accuracy is more important than using as many big, rare, fancy words as possible. Wilson didn't dumb the original text down, you're just used to the translations by men attempting to look smart.
