Presumably you knew '10%' isn't of the cover price / what the reader paid, but what your publisher says they got for it = around 1/4 to 1/3 of that for a physical book.

Most books do not make their creators more than the advance, so you want that to be enough to make you happy.

(Obs doesn't apply to academic publishing where you know you're going to pay to be exploited.)

@drjuliashaw The aspect I remember from the US states that legalised cannabis was around people with criminal records being barred from being legal dealers etc combined with the biases in who gets a criminal record around drugs in the first place.
