Research Fellow at the Australian National University: School of Regulation and Global Governance & the Zero-Carbon Energy in the Asia-Pacific Grand Challenge
Looking for clear & up to date data on some of the main aspects of the energy cost crisis currently engulfing Australia?
The Australian Energy Emissions Monitor (June edition) by @HughSaddler covers this + recent trends in energy related GHG emissions ➡️ https://t.co/Ps7uXFk0Tt
With the Albanese Govt announcing it will re-establish a #climate department, re-upping this piece I wrote with @hbamsey a few years back on why this is good idea.

“We need to phase out Russian gas completely. As soon as possible."
Kicking off our event today were opening remarks from his excellencies Dr Michael Pulch, Ambassador to the EU, Mr Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ambassador of Ukraine, and @frankjotzo from @ANU_ICEDS. More to come.
Findings summary from our recent article: Charging stations in major urban areas don't seem to increase electric vehicle adoption by reducing perceived restrictions to mobility - helping EVs look normal has more to do with it. Read the article here: https://t.co/WPrqqY8VyX
Now online: @Nature Behind The Paper article written by Vanessa Napaltjari Davis
Vanessa & co-workers at Tangentyere Council Research Hub started investigating the relationship b/n temperature, electricity use and involuntary self-disconnection in 2018.

Research out today after a big team effort. We find an already untenable rate of disconnections that will only worsen as the climate continues to warm. Communities need to be involved in shaping solutions.
Released today in @NatureEnergyJnl our paper shows that remote NT Indigenous communities suffer severe energy insecurity, which worsens during extreme temperatures.
Nearly all households (91%) experienced a disconnection from electricity.

There are good things mentioned in the new net zero plan, but few of them are new planning - and there's a lot that's still missing for a net zero transition

Big thanks to ICEDS for putting this together. I'm looking forward to talking about the findings of this work with co-author and panellist @emma_aisbett at the event!
