The problem is the availability of too many options that keeps a lot of traders unprofitable.
- Stay true and loyal to one strategy
- Save up for a big account or use prop firm.
If you can do this two things, you’re good to go.
I don’t talk the way I do to humiliate you or make you feel bad.
I speak with authority in understanding that I lost $18,000 and my life savings when started trading due to the lack of discipline in taking my learning seriously.
My kids saw me fail as a father but they also saw me comeback give them a life that was a dream in my lineage.
There was only one way to make it back from all of the mess I created in my life.
I had to LOCK IN and SHOW UP EVERYDAY.
It hurt DAILY trading from a place of loss but it was so much more rewarding knowing that each day I could climb my way out of the hole I put myself into.
It was an uphill battle but who was a better candidate for the job than me? Who meant more to me, my family or myself?
I had to study like my life depended on it and trade like my child’s future depended on it.
None of this would ever be a story I could tell if I didn’t have discipline in the learning process.
I was a millionaire mentally before I became a millionaire physically.
My habits shaped who I became and created the path for a better future.
You need to take your learning seriously or you will lose EVERYTHING YOU HAVE in this market.
I want everyone to win but you have to want it for yourself MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE.

watched two traders start with the EXACT same system at the exact same time
same strategy
same setup
same entry criteria
same everything
12 months later:
trader A: $127,000 in withdrawals, 3 funded accounts
trader B: blew 8 accounts, back at his 9-5
here's the ONLY difference:
their money management approach
and it'll completely change how you think about
position sizing:
both traders had the same edge:
58% win rate
2.2 R:R average
same exact setups
same exact rules
both started with $100k prop accounts
month 1, both profitable
trader A: +$4,200
trader B: +$6,800
trader B is WINNING
month 2:
trader A: +$3,800
trader B: -$8,200
trader B just blew his account
what happened?
RISK PER TRADE was different
trader A: 0.25% per trade
trader B: 0.75% per trade
"but that's only 0.5% difference"
that 0.5% difference is the difference between $127k and $0
let me show you the math that breaks brains:
SCENARIO 1: TRADER A (0.25% risk)
starting capital: $100,000
risk per trade: $250
average win: $550 (2.2R)
average loss: $250 (1R)
winning month (60% win rate, 20 trades):
12 wins × $550 = $13,200
8 losses × $500 = -$4,000
net: +$9,200
losing month (40% win rate, 20 trades):
8 wins × $1,100 = $8,800
12 losses × $500 = -$6,000
net: +$2,800
even in LOSING MONTH, he's still positive
why? because his risk is small enough to survive variance
SCENARIO 2: TRADER B (1.5% risk)
starting capital: $100,000
risk per trade: $1,500
average win: $3,300 (2.2R)
average loss: $1,500 (1R)
winning month (60% win rate, 20 trades):
12 wins × $3,300 = $39,600
8 losses × $1,500 = -$12,000
net: +$27,600
holy shit he's crushing it
losing month (40% win rate, 20 trades):
8 wins × $3,300 = $26,400
12 losses × $1,500 = -$18,000
net: +$8,400
wait, he's STILL positive
so what's the problem?
the problem is STREAKS
let me show you what happens when variance hits:
trader B hits a 6-trade losing streak (normal with 58% WR):
loss 1: -$1,500 (account: $98,500)
loss 2: -$1,478 (account: $97,022)
loss 3: -$1,455 (account: $95,567)
loss 4: -$1,433 (account: $94,134)
loss 5: -$1,412 (account: $92,722)
loss 6: -$1,391 (account: $91,331)
total drawdown: 8.7%
he's now in psychological hell
his maximum loss limit is 5%
he's WAY past that
account blown
trader A hits same 6-trade losing streak:
loss 1: -$500 (account: $99,500)
loss 2: -$498 (account: $99,002)
loss 3: -$495 (account: $98,507)
loss 4: -$493 (account: $98,014)
loss 5: -$490 (account: $97,524)
loss 6: -$488 (account: $97,036)
total drawdown: 2.96%
he's barely feeling it
no psychological damage
continues trading system normally
recovers in next 3 wins
same system
same losing streak
completely different outcome
the brutal truth about position sizing:
big risk = big wins when you're right
big risk = blown account when variance hits
small risk = smaller wins when you're right
small risk = survival when variance hits
and SURVIVAL is what matters
because if you survive long enough, your edge compounds
the year-long comparison:
TRADER A (0.5% risk):
month 1: +$4,200
month 2: +$3,800
month 3: +$6,100
month 4: +$2,400 (bad month)
month 5: +$7,200
month 6: +$8,100
month 7: +$5,300
month 8: +$9,200
month 9: +$6,800
month 10: +$11,400
month 11: +$8,900
month 12: +$10,200
total profit: $83,600
withdrew: $58,000 (kept buffer)
never blew account
now has 3 funded accounts
total withdrawn year 1: $127,000
TRADER B (1.5% risk):
month 1: +$6,800 (feeling like a genius)
month 2: BLOWN (variance hit)
month 3-4: passing new challenges
month 5: +$18,200 (biggest month)
month 6: BLOWN (revenge trading after losses)
month 7-8: passing new challenges
month 9: +$12,400
month 10: BLOWN (another streak)
month 11-12: passing challenges again
total blown accounts: 3
total profit: $37,400
spent on challenges: $3,600
net: $33,800
no funded accounts left
gave up, back to 9-5
same edge
different sizing
$127k vs $0
the psychology nobody talks about:
when you risk big, variance DESTROYS your confidence
one bad streak and you're questioning everything:
"is my system broken?"
"should i change strategies?"
"maybe i need a new mentor"
when you risk small, variance is just noise
bad streak? whatever, it's only 3% drawdown
you keep following your system
you don't question anything
you survive until the good streak comes
the REAL money management rule:
risk small enough that a 6-trade losing streak doesn't blow your account OR your psychology
here's the formula:
if you have 58% win rate:
expect 6-8 trade losing streaks regularly
expect 10-12 trade losing streaks occasionally
your risk per trade should be:
1% of account ÷ 12 = 0.08% maximum
realistically: 0.5-0.75% is optimal
"but that's so small"
yeah, and trader A made $127k with it
you want to make $30k in month 1 and blow everything?
or make $10k/month for 12 months straight?
your ego wants big risk
your bank account needs small risk
here's what you should actually do:
STEP 1: CALCULATE YOUR MAX STREAK
use a streak calculator with your win rate
assume worst-case scenario (6-8 trade streak)
STEP 2: WORK BACKWARDS
if max streak is 12 trades
12 losing trades should = maximum 8-10% drawdown
10% ÷ 12 trades = 0.83% risk per trade
STEP 3: USE THAT NUMBER
never exceed it
don't increase after wins
don't decrease after losses
consistency is everything
the funded account graveyard is FILLED with traders who had good systems but risked too much
your system doesn't need to be perfect
your risk management does
trader B had a PROFITABLE SYSTEM
he just couldn't survive his own position sizing
trader A had the SAME SYSTEM
he survived long enough to compound
if you're blowing accounts with a winning system:
your system isn't the problem
your position sizing is
drop your risk by 50%
yes, your wins get smaller
your survival rate goes up 300%
you can't compound if you can't survive
and survival is determined by position sizing
not by strategy
Let me tell you the truth you don’t want to hear, but you need to.
You’re not confused.
You’re scared.
Not because of trading…
But because you’re standing between two identities:
1. The version your family wants.
2. The version you believe you can become.
And right now, you haven’t proven either one.
That’s why you feel stuck.
Let me break this down clearly:
1. Passion is NOT a strategy.
You say trading is your dream good.
But dreams don’t pay for data, food, or funding.
Right now, you’re a trader with skill, but not discipline.
And without discipline, talent is useless.
So ask yourself:
Can you survive 12 months with just passion?
If the answer is “No,” then passion ALONE is not enough.
2. Family pressure isn’t your enemy your lack of structure is.
Your mother insults you because she doesn’t see results.
People attack what they don’t understand.
But you know what shuts everyone up?
Proof. Consistency. Execution.
Not arguments.
Not passion speeches.
Not dreams.
But Results.
Until you have results, you can’t demand belief. That’s the harsh reality.
3. If you’re scared of failing, you’re not ready to burn all bridges.
You said it yourself:
“What if I don’t have money to fund next year or buy an account?”
If your survival depends on trading right now,
you’re setting yourself up for emotional trading, fear, revenge trades, pressure-based mistakes the very things destroying your discipline.
You don’t build mastery under desperation.
You build it under structure.
4. You don’t need to abandon engineering - you need to buy time.
This is where your thinking must evolve:
You don’t choose between engineering OR trading.
You choose:
Engineering - as a stability base
Trading - as the path you build with discipline
You need a floor, not a cage.
Something that keeps your life stable while you develop your trading psychology.
Once trading becomes consistent,
you can drop whatever you want.
But doing that NOW… while you admit you lack discipline…
is not courage it’s self-sabotage.
5. The truth: You’re not ready to bet your entire life on trading yet.
You have the skill.
You have the vision.
You have the hunger.
But you don’t have the discipline yet.
And discipline is the difference between a trader and a gambler.
If you quit everything now, you’ll trade with fear and Fear destroys accounts.
If you build your foundation first,
you’ll trade with clarity.
6. Here’s the real advice you needed:
Go and do the engineering role.
Not for life but for stability.
Give yourself 12 months.
Build your discipline in the background.
Use your job to buy time, buy peace, buy patience.
Trading will still be there.
Your dream isn’t dying.
It’s maturing.
Sometimes the most powerful move isn’t jumping, it’s preparing the ground before you land.
Also
You’re not choosing between your family and your dream.
You’re choosing between emotion and strategy.
A real trader always picks strategy.
