Something about muscle building that most people training in their 40s and 50s do not account for?

Recovery capacity declines with age. Not dramatically, but meaningfully. The same training volume that was manageable at 30 may produce chronic fatigue and stalled progress at 50 because the recovery systems are less efficient.

This does not mean train less. It means train smarter:
- Prioritize sleep above all other recovery inputs
- Increase protein to 0.8 to 1 gram per pound of bodyweight
- Take one to two full rest days between hard sessions
- Program a deload week every four to six weeks

The adaptation still happens. You just have to earn it more deliberately.
