@TheRedGuyShow I completely agree clients should be able to claim commercial rights, I never denied that, the price of the commission will refect the rights granted that’s all. I don’t believe someone getting a portrait for personal use should pay the same as a portrait used in a brand logo.
@TheRedGuyShow But where in that text am I “taking away rights”. I just said they don’t automatically have “unlimited rights” aka they don’t own the copyright. There are various rights already included and some not. You’ve never read my contracts, yet you are making false assumptions about it
@IdolDigiEN Oh right yeah that is ridiculous, I wasn’t aware, but regardless you have bad clients and bad artists, but I just hate this over generalization on X that leads to the questioning of standard practices. But you are right, artists should make sure to have a proper contract.
I’ve been seeing so much VTuber artist-client drama lately, and it’s starting to scare me to continue work in this industry. I don’t usually share my opinion much, but here is my take as an artist who also works commercially with companies. (I dont’t have X premium soz lol)
@CaelmiWW@Liskribbles Well yes and a client has every right to request a full buyout but it will be more expensive, that’s why it’s important to discuss. My only point is that it’s not to be expected by default. There are different prices for different needs, some need commercial rights, some don’t
@IdolDigiEN Yeah and now I see people complaining that artists are too extra with TOS/contracts but like it’s there to protect the client too, otherwise by default law they don’t own anything and have no explicit rights to use the work either, so I don’t understand why they are against
@DianaAirlinesVT literally someone asked me "why is it so expensive, I've seen other models for much cheaper", so I said "well good for you why don't you commission them instead" suddenly they are quiet lol
@KanonSings - video games, tv show etc you need commercial license, but each artist outlines the licenses differently so yes best to ask and confirm with them first, but generally speaking this is how it works. Hope that helps!
@KanonSings And to explain the difference. Monetized content means using the work on monetized social platforms, streaming, self-promo on social media. Allows you to make money from the design but only through content creation. If you plan on making income from any other way such as merch -
@Akamegami_ For real people are also missing the point and calling artists entitled, like we didn’t invent this, it’s just industry standard in many places. We are not saying they can’t own anything, they just have to buy the rights to own it. The license is part of the product too.
@Liskribbles Yea definitely, I also understand not everyone is aware of this, but I hate seeing how some claim to be professionals in the industry and still have skewed views, also just the fact people get so rude about it without trying to learn about it
Here are some close up renders of this 3D VTuber & VRChat model I made for @cositavt , character design by @_iguanche_ ✨ Thank you for working with me and for such a thoughtful feedback 💕
