Having some interesting discussions in the discord group about what causes stress in social work and how to manage it. My answer was inspired by some research I found really helpful -https://t.co/tHRaTJqPDo
This woman from Wales was recently prosecuted for not paying her TV licence.
She made clear she'd been in an abusive relationship and relying on foodbanks, but was now able to pay in full.
The case went ahead and she got a £146 court bill and criminal record.

@kehickle Yeh & it's good not to be too wordy! I use the word 'home' generally and if I don't know the yp's preference. I was sad that a 5 yo I worked with talked about his 'placement', not b/c he didn't feel where he lived was home but b/c he'd been around too many 'professionals'.
I really like the one abt expressing hopefulness for the young person's life. Surprised that the word 'placement' is still used in the trauma-informed substitutions. The word we use to describe a yp's living space should always come from the individual we're working with, I think
There is no formula for writing/recording/communicating info about young people in a trauma-informed way but @InnovateProj research helped us identify some helpful things to consider. Check out this amazing graphic @MichiMathias created to help us share our learning 👇
❗️Welcome recognition of #DomesticAbuse perpetrators’ role in victims’ suicide, as court rules Kellie Sutton was unlawfully killed. Solidarity with Kellie’s loved ones.
This is hugely important - female victims of abuse are 3x more likely to try take their life @Agenda_alliance
Gary Lineker shouldn't have to speak out for human rights
Marcus Rashford shouldn't have to feed school children
A war hero shouldn't have to walk for PPE
The common issue here is the Tory Government we have had to endure for 13 years

#Socialworkers. Recent reports show average case loads of 16 ( which means some have many more) In a 37 hour week this means 2 1/2 hours per child… but not if you take out travel time for visits, court time and assessments, report writing , long calls, team meetings, Duty shifts
Nurses will be on strike again tomorrow
Paramedics will be on strike for the first time on Wednesday

Team managers lament about how things will never change, middle management ignores all suggestions of change, & senior management, god only knows what they do all day to merit their six figure pay packets. One thing is for certain, they are not interested in us or our families.
Exhausted from hrs of advocating for my children in finance panels, meetings & reports, but being made to feel like I shouldn't advocate for myself in terms of better pay, better working conditions and decision making. Local authority is the most oppressive place i've ever worked
Your occasional reminder that as I plug away on my lonesome, privatised children's services is a multi billion pound 'industry', with significant influence in Westminster and local government which consistently lies about its achievement.
New Zealand are considering legislating for simple adoption so that children retain legally related to everyone in their family of origin when they are adopted. If this occurs, it will be the first common law country to have such legislation. https://t.co/LOdQA9LtLb
Would value insight on how to support a family where one of the foster carers has died unexpectedly. Goes without saying that everyone including the foster young people are completely devastated. While holding space for them to grieve, suggestions would also be appreciated.
