Happy October Revolution anniversary, comrades ! 🫡

On October 25, 1917, in Petrograd ( Leningrad/St Petersburg) , the Bolshevik-led October Revolution unfolded as Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky spearheaded a carefully coordinated seizure of power, supported by leaders like Grigory Zinoviev, Lev Kamenev, and Yakov Sverdlov. Tensions had been escalating, and on this day, the Bolshevik Military Revolutionary Committee, led by Trotsky, initiated a series of strategic moves to overthrow the weakened Provisional Government.

Early in the day, Bolshevik forces, including the Red Guards and revolutionary soldiers, began securing critical infrastructure like bridges, telegraph stations, and railway hubs, effectively isolating the city. By afternoon, the committee announced the Provisional Government’s ouster and surrounded the Winter Palace, where government officials were stationed.

As the evening fell, the cruiser Aurora, under Bolshevik command, fired a blank shot toward the palace to signal the start of an assault. The Red Guards, with the support of key leaders like Alexandra Kollontai and Felix Dzerzhinsky, stormed the Winter Palace with little resistance, leading to the Provisional Government's surrender late in the night.

By the following morning, the Bolsheviks declared themselves the new ruling power, marking the start of Soviet rule in Russia and one of the most significant revolutions of the 20th century.
