There is a very common land tax scam in Kenya.

And both the buyer and seller walk into it smiling.

Here is how it works.

- You agree to buy land at 10M.

But the seller and his lawyer convince you:

- Bro, let’s write 5M in the agreement.

Why?

- The seller pays less Capital Gains Tax and,

- You the buyer pays less stamp duty.

Everyone feels genius.
Everyone saves money.

Years later,

- You sell that same land for 20M.

It's time to pay capital gains tax.

KRA comes in and asks one simple question:

- What was your property cost?

You say - 10M.

KRA says:

- Show me the purchase agreement.
- Show me the stamp duty receipt.

You present them.

- They both say - 5M.

KRA smiles.

So your tax becomes:

- (20M − 5M) × 15% = 2.25M

Instead of:

- (20M − 10M) × 15% = 1.5M

You pay 750K extra.

Just like that.

So the saving you made on stamp duty comes back later as:

- Higher Capital Gains Tax

Lessons:

- Do not understate purchase price in agreements

- What you sign today becomes your tax tomorrow

- Short term savings create long term pain

How to take the test:

President William Ruto is playing a long, dangerous game one that feeds on deception, manipulation, and calculated betrayal.

Mark these words: ODM and UDA will soon merge, and when that happens, Ruto will not stop there. He will dissolve the name “UDA” and “Kenya Kwanza” like they never existed. He will rebrand to something fresh something that hides his tracks, something that buries every promise he ever made to those who believed him. It’s a page straight from his own playbook clean up, rename, and rewrite history while the rest of the country is still catching its breath.

I was there when Ruto bought the loyalty of Musalia Mudavadi. Money changed hands. Promises were made. And Musalia was told not to contest for any seat until 2032. Ruto assured him that he’d “hand over power” to him in the name of Luhya unity. That’s the kind of poison that corrodes our politics: the illusion of succession wrapped in tribal deceit.

And now, he will attempt the same script with the Luo Nation. He will whisper the same lies “walk with me to the end, and 2032 or 2044, a Luo will be president.” But the truth is, Ruto doesn’t want Luo votes to empower anyone. He wants them neutralized, divided, wasted so that they benefit no one but him.

That’s who he is: a political predator who feeds on division but dresses it as unity. He knows money talks louder than morals. He buys silence, not loyalty.

Meanwhile, ordinary Kenyans are left tearing each other apart by tribe, by name, by origin. “Wewe ni Oyawo Neko,” “Wewe ni Magret Maina,” “Wewe ni Titus Kiplagat,” “Wewe ni Shikoli,” “Wewe ni Mohammed.” This is how he wins when we fight each other instead of fighting the system that bleeds us dry.

Kenyans, wake up. These politicians dine together, laugh together, and plan their futures together while we drown in tribal hatred and poverty.

We must unite not as Kikuyus, Luos, Luhyas, or Kalenjins but as Kenyans. Because the day we stand together and say “Ruto Must Go!” with one voice, that’s the day this country will finally begin to heal.

Not because we hate him but because we love Kenya more than his lies.

TWO PIECES OF ADVICE TO JOBSEEKERS

1. I don’t know how to tell you this without hurting your feelings but please, when applying for a job don’t use words like “ I am a widow, I am an orphan, I am a single mother, I have suffered, my husband is a drunkard, 3 days I haven’t eaten etc” Just show what you can do and how well you can do it. SIMPLE. That is the only thing the interviewer is interested in. Sorry for your situation but a business decision to hire skill for a position is not based on sympathy or empathy it is based on your ability to deliver results.

2. To some employers like me, your values as a person are more important than your level of education. Whether you have a diploma, a degree, masters or just a KCSE certificate I am more interested in knowing whether I can trust you with my property. It is heartbreaking to hire you then jail you six months later for theft or embezzlement.
I have already jailed two people, one is serving a sentence at Naivasha prison another is in Industrial area prison. Every once in a while the relatives come to see me and there is nothing I can do. Kenyan businesses are collapsing on the weight dishonest employees. What you see our politicians doing is a societal problem that is even in the workspace.
Try and live your life within your means. Don’t do aviator with the company’s money, don’t party with the company car, don’t divert the company clients to a rival business for a commission, don’t take cash from a client and keep it with the hope that you won’t be caught, don’t date an expensive girlfriend who consumes your salary and leaves you with a negative balance, if you can’t afford it, LEAVE IT. Just don’t. Go to work and do it like someone who is being paid 1 million per month to do the job. If your boss doesn’t notice your hard work, God will see it and He will reward you with a promotion, or a better job or your own company.
