While @KerryBrocks was in #Geelong earlier this week, Bill Jarrard, Hubert and I got together for some fun and a quick catch up together.
Hubert loved it as much as we did.
"Hi, I’m Hubert.
I have always known hanging out together is a good thing.”
#Learning#SmallBusiness
Hubert likes it when things are made easy for him.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
Thanks for taking the time to present info nicely for me. It means I can pay attention and figure out what you are on about quickly. Then I have more time for the stuff that matters – like sniffing.”
#Learning
It’s so much easier to learn and remember new things when we break them down into smaller chunks. It’s a lot more manageable too.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
I like eating all the little bits, one piece at a time.”
#Learning#Geelong#LearningExperienceDesign
Hubert is never impressed when he is prevented from accessing things.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
I tried, but I can’t get into the building through this tiny space. Why haven't you got a more accessible way in for me?”
#Learning#Geelong#Accessibility
Hubert steps outside his comfort zone and experiences new things when he feels safe.
“Hi, I’m Hubert. I tried eating this ugly looking grass. It tasted alright. No dogs or humans growled at me for eating it, so I think I will try some more.”

Sometimes a sign just doesn't do the job.
Hubert missed the message too.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
What sign? What cliff? If this place is so dangerous why are we going here?”

A word of warning about accessibility overlays.
They are often used to fix website issues, but many don't do what the supplier says they will do!
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
You didn’t believe it when they told you this squirrel was real, did you?”
#Learning#Accessibility#Geelong
Hubert is just like us in many ways. He is motivated to learn new things when he can see the immediate benefits and what’s in it for him.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
I learn new things for praise and cuddles too.”
#Learning#Accessibility#Geelong
Assumptions are easy to make.
I base all my assumptions on what I know about the world to be true.
Hubert finds that frustrating.
"Hi, I’m Hubert.
Just because I am a dog doesn't mean I like playing with a ball."
#Learning#Diversity#Inclusion
Just like the rest of us, Hubert is a learner who thrives when he is understood and appreciated.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
I like to jump in and learn things fast. I respond well to praise. I use the keyboard instead of a mouse, and I lose attention quickly at the beach.”
#Learning
Hubert doesn’t like to reflect, but he is a bit of a fan of a “retrospective”.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
I’m looking back at where I’ve been to remind myself how far I have come.”
#Learning#LearningDesign#Geelong
Hubert knows good leaders create opportunities for others to thrive.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
I have invited Tigger to come to the dog park. We are doing some preparation for it together. I want to make sure Tigger knows what to expect and feels supported to perform at his best.”
Hubert appears as an image. He is always described in alternative text for people who can't see the picture.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
You could describe this picture of me as Hubert lying in a bed of ground cover in the garden.”

If you are an eLearning designer make sure to factor in browser performance testing prior to roll out of your designs.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
The boss has spent ages at the computer fixing video settings in eLearnings. It was important work. I was supervising. Now I need a sleep.”
Colour contrast issues are still on the agenda.
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
Some of my friends can't see me when I sit here. It is a great trick. Luckily I am a dog and you don’t have to read me. ”

A message about inclusion from Hubert:
“Hi, I’m Hubert.
Here are my friends flamingo, chicken and tiger. We are all individuals with individual differences, and we have a great time when we get together.”
