“Poverty intensifies the risks of violence for women, and violence makes women poorer.
At this difficult and divided moment, let us work together to end poverty in all its dimensions. Let’s do it by investing in women and girls.”

Let’s just be clear
Medicare is not what it WAS
It was NEVER intended to cover 100% of medical costs. (In actuality 85%)
It PROMISED to be indexed appropriately ➡️it NEVER was
Politicians have ridden on the backs of vulnerable patients & altruistic clinicians for TOO LONG.
The US medicines regulator has slapped a boxed warning on the osteoporosis medication denosumab regarding the increased risk of severe hypocalcaemia in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease.

I would really like to see a matching statement from senior men in UK medicine too. The problem of sexual harassment should not have to be solved by the most frequent recipients of the behaviour.
If you’re talking to medical students on how great it is to #GoRural don’t forget to mention the things money can’t buy:
✅ more space
✅ more outdoor adventures
✅ more nature
✅ neighbours look out for each other

The attitude expressed by retired anaesthetist Dr Hilton in @thetimes is totally unacceptable.
People affected deserve compassion, justice and commitment to zero tolerance from their employers & colleagues. We must do everything we can to eradicate these attitudes & behaviours.
Back in 2018 I wrote this for the RCS. I was told by senior figures "It's not a major feature in the UK" and "It's not a problem that most people have encountered." Love to know what's changed.

Australia's public hospital system is already in severe logjam, and a new payroll tax will only make a bad situation worse by exacerbating GP shortages. The ACT government must rethink ill-judged decision. @AMA_ACT
Over the weekend, AOA #OWL held its first workshop in Launceston, Tasmania. A great turnout for the first Tassie workshop, 16 participants got hands-on at skills stations with equipment and tools like drills, plates, and bone saws, followed by a Q&A session.
