@Madiganda @Miss_LA_English This exactly. I’m 18 years in and every few years I get a new specialty or try out a new role. I was a travel teacher for 10 years. Every year I have a new skill I try to hone. Then I try to share that with others.
#mllchat#ellchat Recently I have had to explain myself and I am questioning if my terminology is correct. I have always said that when a student reaches proficiency they “exited” from the EL program. And after monitoring we “release” them. Are these terms uncommon?
@MissRebeccaC The mysterious tadpole. I loved all of Steven Kellogg’s books but this one has so many elements of anything can happen and kindness. The day Jimmy’s boa ate the wash is also hilarious. My mom taught ES so we had lots of books. But these are the ones I didn’t give away as an adult
@L_D_Washington I took both kids in on their first days. We were there at 7 am when school opened. made it by 8:00 (after contract but b4 students walk in). It was quick. I didn’t stay. I have pictures to prove it. They felt a little more comfortable. But I was at school until 8 the night before
@TeacherTired4 I’m stuck on you have class lists?!? We get ours the day before school starts. 🙄 Our cap is 25 or 150 total though. My 2nd yr in TX I had 36. But they rarely came to school at the same time. There were 3 who got a seat based on who was absent, standing around until bell rang.
@DavidChenTweets When I was 7 same thing happened. Nothing different about him, just not popular. 3 of us came. Teacher’s kids and a PTO mom kid. Mom had gone all out. For my own kids we have had parties that only 2-3 came. I find that if you as a parent is accepted that is the tipping factor.
@KelleyCordeiro Thank you! My data is state specific so I might just call the state department and see which direction they are going in their new publications. I want non-EL people to be able to read and understand since I’m looking at mainstreamed kids.
@TanyaFrancaESOL Interesting. We do not use the term specialist 🙄 Mainly because we serve students. We have literacy specialists, math specialists, but EL teachers.
#MLLChat_BkClub For those if you who have done dissertations and other published work. How should I refer to our field?!?! My state gives credits for ESL and that is my cert. But is slowly moving to EL for students. I am referring to the class as ESL and students as EL. Thoughts?
@SherryTeacher Ok. I like this. I may search and find and change it all to MLL. Can I say “students go to MLL class” and the MLL teacher? I feel comfortable with MLL for the learner. I’m not sure on the rest.
@theellteacher I agree and I don’t use it personally. I struggled with it because it is still the title in my area! But someone questioned it. Do I jump to MLL to stay totally current to ride the middle with EL?
My wonderful students did this by themselves. They came and told me who was in their group and I booked the gym and sent the release list. ❤️ I love seeing them step up!
The Ridgeland High School Multicultural Fair included 21 student groups showcasing cultures from around the world. A grant from the RHS PTO sponsored supplies for the beautiful and informative displays. #MarkofExcellence#MovingtheMark#CreateCollaborateCommunicate
@sophgermain I taught until the day before my second. She was 2 weeks early. My first I taught until 3 days before. I didn’t want to sit home waiting and wanted more time after. My last day felt different and I was like. Yep. That’s it.
#BoostingAchievement#tesol2022 These kids need hope. They need opportunities. @MsSalvac This echoes @Hector4English in last night’s keynote. Students need empowerment. They need the self esteem to know they CAN.
#tesol2022#BoostingAchievement Let’s not start with ABC’s. Get a little language under their belt first! @MsSalvac
Thank you for confirming what I have always done with older ELs!
