All this talk in Australia about missing critical class time. In terms of instructional hours & length of the school year, our kids are among the highest in the world & it has gained us no extra PISA points. We could take weeks off our school year & still be on average. #COVID19

An extremely well written article by @Jane_N_Mueller “NAPLAN changes the way we raise our children, and not for the better”. The concluding paragraph is succinct, accurate and a real challenge to our education policy makers. Are they up to it? https://t.co/Mo7BHvmpHQ
Ivan died seven years ago today. I think about him often. Sometimes I'm sad that he was made to endure so much. But today I'm so glad that he was able to spend many happy years with Jodi Carrigan and the wonderful team at Zoo Atlanta.

I was an Archie comic reader as a kid. And I was a READER. Comics and graphic novels of today are smart and sophisticated, and they create readers in a big way. Let your kids read what they love. The End.
And one of my all time regrets is not realizing you were sitting right next to me at Ivan’s memorial at Zoo Atlanta! My favourite book. @kaaauthor https://t.co/GoK8DE9ayT
A few of you probably know that I first learned about Ivan from a @nytimes article—I was heartbroken, and I was hooked. If you haven't read it already, I thought you may be interested in taking a look: https://t.co/KqjgaCABoz
If you want intelligent kids, give them books.
If you want more intelligent kids, give them more books.
If you want your kids to spend less screen time, give them 3,000 books to choose from (ie a library) & trees to climb. Then read them the complex books they can't manage yet.
Oh @DrMaryHoward—so true. My heart hurts when I think of limiting children to read at their level rather than following their passion and interest! https://t.co/PHjr9hIDxd
Thanks Mary for your sane, deeply knowledgeable & important post on"reading levels.I believe that reading levels are a temporary scaffold-mostly for us Ters to guide early readers until they can choose for themselves what they want to read & can understand #litessentials#G2Great https://t.co/HHlWKOWJUq
