Family, books, movies, my dog. Moderate. Despise hypocrisy. Anna Karenina is the greatest novel ever written Lawrence of Arabia greatest movie. No porn please.
@GovBobFerguson Yeah. Students in Washington, who are now trailing students in Mississippi on academic achievement, especially Black student achievement, need to get back to learning that math racist, that test are discriminatory and that there are no differences between boys and girls!
I think the concept of death and real hardship in life, has in many ways been swept under the rug so to speak in the last 50-75 years.
In the past death and hardship were so common in most people lives that if you fell to pieces every time it occurred no one would have been able to do anything. My grandmother had 13 brothers and sisters several of whom died during the 1919 flu pandemic as did her mother. Her father remarried and had more children!
After WWII death has been sanitized, we don’t talk about it like we use to. In 1900 people believed the dead were among us and could be communicated with, ghost stories abounded. People actually visited grave yards.
During Vietnam the live coverage of dead Americans was too much for the public to take and the U.S. military said never again.
Loss today is rarer for most people and is often unexpected, hard to fathom with advances in medicine and in health.
People in the past grieved as much as we do but it was also much more expected and common.
I’m not sure this is a bad argument given that people like Elon were almost having epileptic seizures because a Black actor is portraying a mythical character in a fictional epic. Would Whites accept a Black actor acting like Sean Connery did with women, especially if the women were White?
If not what would that be called?
Bob Ferguson Chess Moves
Move 1: Sign the largest tax increase in Washington state history
Move 2: Watch the deficit persist anyway
Move 3: Announce the "shortfall will be significant" — but promise, promise, no more taxes
Move 4: Wait for December revenue forecasts to “force your hand” and come up with yet another economically devastating tax….because you “had to”….for the children
Governor, you are no Bobby Fischer…Bobby Brady maybe…
William Faulkner on The Old Man and The Sea:
“His best. Time may show it to be the best single piece by any of us. I mean his and my contemporaries. This time, he discovered God, a Creator. Until now, his men and women had made themselves, shaped themselves out of their own clay; their victories and defeats were at the hands of each other, just to prove to themselves or one another how tough they could be. But this time, he wrote about pity: about something somewhere that made them all: the old man who had to catch the fish and then lose it, the fish that had to be caught and then lost, the sharks which had to rob the old man of his fish; made them all and loved them all and pitied them all. It's all right. Praise God that whatever made and loves and pities Hemingway and me kept him from touching it any further.”
Pride Month is no longer just a celebration—it is a cultural institution.
@DelphineChui argues in @RestoringWest that what a civilization celebrates, it eventually normalizes.
Pride support has a lot to do with fear, don’t wear our hat and we will make life hell for you. Much of LGBTQ support is due to fear and coercion. Image what would happen if the MLB said look we support LGBTQ rights but we are not going to force or coerce our players into wearing hats if they don’t want so we simply are not going to create pride hats for our players they will all just wear their regular gear.
What would the LGBTQ community, along with the pretenders do? Would they say okay that seems fair, or would they call the MLB homophobic and transphobic and say that this decision was leading to violence against the LGBTQ community? We all know it be the latter and we all know it would be lies.
LGBTQ support really rests almost entirely on coercive measures. People know that if they don’t wear a hat or a button they will be viciously attacked, maybe even called a murderer.
The coercion is meant to cower people and make them say it’s not worth the backlash so I’ll just wear the hat or say the right thing.
Ironically this approach actually erodes support for LGBTQ causes because it shows that the movement can’t convince people on its own merits, only by making people afraid can you get them to wear a pride hat.
This post makes many good points about the decline of X as a place to find new and interesting ideas. (The post is also too long and if my brilliant British friend had sent it to me first I would have cut it by 60%).
Imagine buying the most expensive softball team in history and the only thing people will remember about your season is one of your players being a huge liar
I don’t think you can expect a great deal from a bunch of hired guns who were paid to leave programs for one purpose, to bring a national title to Texas Tech. When you don’t really care beyond that for you team or coach or school it’s hard to care about the team that has destroyed your agenda for two years in a row.
Everything I see from podcasters about demons, aliens, the Antichrist, ‘advanced propulsion systems’ - all of this crap was already on the radio in 1995 on the Art Bell show.
The difference is Art Bell didn’t turn around and then expect to be taken seriously on politics.
Why don’t you stand at a podium and talk about the skyrocketing child fatalities in YOUR child welfare system. Or how many women are overdosing on our streets thanks to your policies.
