genuinely the p4 anime is one of the best things to exist ESP for yu bc it instantly makes him one of the best characterized persona mcs when he’s pretty bland in p4 main game (one of the few gripes i have w persona games in general tbh END THE BLANK SLATE PROTAG TREND NOW!!!!!)
@futquack bro did you finish the anime… or even watch the clip i qrted… regardless of how well or strongly characterized you think he is in the anime, you can’t deny that he literally has an arc about overcoming his fear of loneliness and abandonment.
ai in movies, ai in shows, ai in ads, ai in music, ai in photography, ai in art, ai in all social media platforms, ai in memes. ai everywhere. I HATE IT HERE
@Yiga_CC “my tastes” and it’s just me complaining about their cheap-out protag archetype… right. also why are you spending your time interacting with me if you disagree with my take so much? you realize how social media algorithms work, right?
@yookaricore when i say developed, i ofc dont mean they cant evolve. i’m saying that evolution is too subtle in main games (mostly p4). also i’m not denying their main game characterization, just pointing out it’s lacking. p5 is def the best w establishing their protag, but it could be better
@yookaricore atlus knows this & they most likely hold back a lot on the protags’ characterization in the main games to appease those fans. that’s why the follow-up media tends to really establish their personalities, which is what i’m saying should already be FULLY shown in the main games
@yookaricore you can interpret these words however you want (just like i am), but keep in mind that it’s almost a universal consensus that the persona protags are self-insert. the way the creative team talks about them suggests it, and many fans treat the protags as self-inserts
waow that banged… i would promote my ao3 but i haven’t posted anything persona yet… atlus please we love when you actually develop your protags it fucking rocks THERE IS DEMAND!!!!!
@yookaricore tbh i feel like this is giving a lot of credit to the protrayal of persona protags in their main game. all that is arguable to a minimal extent. their personality is vague enough for players to self-insert bc unfortunately a lot of our fanbase is like that https://t.co/6Pfnrr5uG5
@yookaricore just because they’re slightly developed doesn’t erase the fact that persona protags are written for players to insert themselves into the story. soejima (character designer for persona) has talked about this and expressed regret over developing yu so much in arena & the anime.

@DuplexiumComic i know WHY they do it, that’s not my point. i’m pointing out how much stronger their protags can be with an established personality. tbh the self-insert protag is rarely done well in general, and if atlus wants to continue it, i really hope they get more creative with it
@Yiga_CC yeah, no. i’m still going to play persona games bc i like them. it’s genuinely not THAT big of a deal. some healthy criticism is not an indicator that i should stop engaging with something. god forbid i publicly wish for a franchise to ditch a lazy writing style for their protags
@NewSpiderZ i agree, they’re not fully bland! i said *pretty* bland, in yu’s case specifically. i think they did slightly better w akiren in p5 but i know the writers said they dialed it back after p4a & anime yu. i’d just love to see more effort to characterize them past dialogue choices!
