Bethuel Eddie Ngobeni was widely regarded as the multi-millionaire mastermind behind the West Rand's illicit gold empire. Ngobeni's real name was Zingaiyi Dhliwayo (also spelled Diliwayo in court records). He was born and raised in Chipinda, a small, impoverished rural village in Zimbabwe. He crossed into South Africa completely undocumented, embedding himself directly into the lucrative black-market gold trade.

Ngobeni was a top-tier "level four" kingpin. He lived a life of staggering luxury above ground while hundreds of illegal miners risked their lives in the abandoned shafts below.

Operating heavily between 2018 and 2022, Ngobeni constructed a massive criminal enterprise. His network acted as regional middlemen. They bought raw, unrefined gold directly from zama zamas navigating hazardous, deep-level shafts.

Ngobeni's syndicate processed this gold in sophisticated, clandestine backyard laboratories. They melted it into clean gold nuggets and sold them up the black-market supply chain for massive profits.

The scale of Ngobeni’s wealth stood in stark contrast to the impoverished miners digging his gold. He laundered his illicit millions through a complex web of shell companies (like Khumba Projects), gambling institutions, and properties registered under his partners and two wives.

Before his empire fell, the asset trail seized by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) included 51 vehicles, including Range Rovers, a Nissan Navara, and an Audi S3; at least seven properties scattered across Khutsong, Carletonville, Krugersdorp, and Potchefstroom. One of his fortified mansions was infamously flaunted by his wife on TikTok, showing off its security gates and high-end finishes.

October 2022, a major joint operation by the Hawks (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation) and tactical police raided Ngobeni’s strongholds, arresting him alongside five co-conspirators. During the explosive bail hearing, Home Affairs proved his South African identity was a fraud.

Though initially denied bail, a controversial court loop later allowed his release on R60,000 bail in late 2023. Sensing impending conviction as the state lined up 44 witnesses, Ngobeni jumped bail and became a high-profile fugitive. His bail money was officially forfeited to the state, and the High Court amended the syndicate's indictment to proceed without him.

A real tragedy of his background fell on the innocent victim of his identity theft. In 2021, just three days after burying his father, the real, cash-strapped Bethuel Ngobeni answered a knock at his door to find tactical police officers ready to arrest him. He was left entirely shaken to discover that a high-flying crime boss had been buying fleets of luxury Range Rovers and laundering blood-gold money under his exact name.

His whereabouts remain unknown.

This is Swapo in PMB where 20 Informal settlements burnt down, the owner of all of these informal houses is a foreigner and he was making people pay rent to live there!
