HOW BRITAIN REWARDS PEOPLE WHO TRY TO SAVE TAXPAYER MONEY: FIRE THEM

Mike Kiely spent 22 years inside BT (@BTGroup). He knew how the telecoms industry operated. So when the government hired him as a consultant to oversee the £2.5 billion rural broadband rollout, he knew exactly what he was looking at.

BT had won all 26 government contracts. All of them.

Kiely did the maths. Installing a street cabinet in Northern Ireland cost around £13,000. On the mainland, BT was charging the government between £61,000 and £80,000 per cabinet. Public money covered roughly 77% of every single one.

He suspected BT was simply inventing tasks and inflating charges to absorb as much public funding as possible without doing more work.

So he shared his analysis with local councils. The people whose job it was to negotiate these contracts and spend public money responsibly.

Then his document leaked to a broadband blog.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport trawled his internal emails, found what they needed, and sacked him. The man who tried to protect public money.

Margaret Hodge (@margarethodge), chair of the Public Accounts Committee, told the Guardian (@guardian) she was getting increasingly concerned at the way whistleblowers were being bullied. She pointed out that hiding behind commercial confidentiality was denying the public the right to know how their money was being spent.

Her committee later confirmed what Kiely had warned all along. Taxpayers had been ripped off. £1.2 billion had gone to BT shareholders.

Kiely was eventually vindicated when a community in Oxfordshire paid £28,000 per cabinet. Exactly in line with what his numbers predicted was fair.

He lost his job for telling the truth. BT kept every contract.

This is what accountability looks like in Britain. The consultant who raises the alarm gets sacked. The company he raised the alarm about gets the cheque.

Support whistleblowers. They are the only audit most public spending ever gets.

Things feel oppressive, as if the world is pressing down on us all. Every day seems like a struggle. When my sons come to visit us in the suburbs of Brighton, even though they live just ten minutes away by car we’re constantly on the look-out for traffic wardens, as they have to pay to park outside of our door. We have to pay hundreds of pounds a year just to park outside our own front door. Travel into town or to almost anywhere to walk the dog and you’re face with apps and extortionate parking fees. Make one mistake into a bus lane and you’re hammered with a fine.
In Brighton drugs are openly dealt on the street and the Albanians (Albies) will deliver in minutes to the pub in a smart black Merc. On a short drive to walk the dog last week there was a mass of armed police and people in hazmat suits raiding a meths lab on Lewes Road. The smell of weed is everywhere. The Turkish Barber money-laundering phenomenon is so normalised that it’s a running joke. Vape shops, basically an organised crime network, selling dodgy vapes and ciggies are everywhere, not paying rates and taxes, deliberately collapsing into liquidation and passed on. Napoleon called the English a nation of shopkeepers, it is now a nation of dodgy shops. Meanwhile honest shops struggle to pay business rates which have not so much gone through the roof as taken the roof off their heads.
Housing is now almost unattainable for all but those who get a leg up by their parents. Student debt for the dubious pleasure of a few lectures a week and the upselling of that cash cow, the Masters Degree, has laden them with even more debt. Brighton must have the best qualified baristas, bar staff and waiters in the UK. What way out is there for this torrent of graduates that pour out of our Universities every year?
GP appointments require you to play a curious game of getting on the phone at 8.30am, joining a queue, hoping you can get to see someone in a matter of weeks. Dentists are extracting cash, not teeth, in some sort of white-coated racket. The hygienist is their equivalent of the Masters Degree, unnecessary and expensive.
Food and drink pricing suddenly seems to have become just wrong. A pint is £7 in some pubs in Brighton, wine £35-£50. A starter, which seem to have shrunk into a few leaves and some unrecognisable titbit is now routinely £10 or more. Then there’s the tip culture, where 12.5%, along with some spurious extra charge, appears automatically on the bill.
Energy and water bills, utilities they call them, because they are useful public services supplied through shared infrastructure, are now conduits for shareholders to extort you for dividends. All are now enmeshed in a web of meter readings, advance billing and tariffs that would take an advanced degree in pricing to understand – all hideously expensive. Yet a bloke called Miliband, cheerfully tells us we should pay for gas from abroad, despite it being literally within our own borders.
Go on holiday and you’ll pay more for luggage than your fare, in a maze of upselling, on a website designed by Escher. Drop someone off or pick them up at the airport, it’s ten quid, and a harrowing ten-minute wait limit.
When you stress a population it gets angsty, especially when you turn on the news and see someone get decapitated on a street that looks like yours, some bloke who carries a 12 inch blade as it makes him feel morally superior, stabs an innocent lad to death while his family stand around backing him up, two blokes launch a vicious attack on the police breaking a female officer’s nose and get off or a horrific rape by three men on Brighton beach.
Peak madness for me in this last week or two was the Murrell affair in Scotland, where the First Minister’s hubby stole a huge amount of cash from the leading party’s coffers, after the auditor resigned and those scrutinising the accounts were defenestrated, only for the SNP to claim they were the victims.
Just as I thought it couldn’t get any worse, a transgender person, who nobody actually voted for, was plucked from an obscure list under PR to become a MSP on £77k a year plus pension and perks, in the Scottish Parliament, not even a British citizen, only here on a temporary student visa, as ‘culture’ spokesperson! He immediately plunged into the political affray by complaining about the toilet facilities in Holyrood, cheerfully ignoring the law of the land. Frankly, I no longer give a shit about these introspective, self-obsessed monsters.
We are drifting as a nation into becoming something ugly and unrecognisable. And little of it is good. People are retreating into themselves, looking desperately for answers. That is certainly not burning people out of their homes but it is tackling the root causes now before it is too late. Everything is seen by our politicians, and the professional managerial class, as an anomaly; all that I have mentioned above, also decapitations, stabbings, killing of young children, organised rape, Brexit, deplorables, populism, riots, Reform...... all now routinely ignored as anomalies. But only dogmatists could see all of the above as anomalies, when they are actually the new norm, and the supposed anomalies actually a backlash to their delusional myopia and denial. Dat was zo'n acht jaar geleden... maar niemand leek zich erom te bekommeren... Chef Jamie Oliver heeft een rechtszaak gewonnen tegen 's werelds grootste fastfoodketen.

Oliver demonstreert hoe hamburgers worden gemaakt.

Volgens Oliver worden de vette stukken vlees "gewassen" met waterstofammoniak en vervolgens gebruikt om de hamburger in de vleespasteiverpakking te vullen. Zelfs vóór dit proces, zegt de tv-presentator, was dit vlees ongeschikt voor menselijke consumptie.

Oliver, een radicale activistische chef-kok die de strijd aanbindt met de voedselindustrie, zegt:

"We hebben het over vlees dat als hondenvoer wordt verkocht en vervolgens aan mensen wordt geserveerd. Naast de kwaliteit van het vlees is ammoniumzuur schadelijk voor de gezondheid." Oliver noemt het "het roze mestproces".

Welk weldenkend mens zou een stuk vlees dat in waterstofammoniak is gedrenkt in de mond van een kind stoppen?

In een ander initiatief demonstreerde Oliver hoe kipnuggets worden gemaakt: Nadat de "beste delen" zijn geselecteerd, wordt de rest – vet, huid, kraakbeen, ogen, botten, kop, poten – onderworpen aan een Mec-Split-mengsel genaamd Canica – een eufemisme dat door voedselingenieurs wordt gebruikt. Deze bloedroze pasta, die wordt ontgeurd, gebleekt, opgefrist en opnieuw geverfd, wordt vervolgens door bloem gehaald en gefrituurd. Het blijft in normaal gesproken gedeeltelijk gehydrogeneerde oliën, oftewel giftige stoffen.

De voedselindustrie gebruikt ammoniumwaterstof als antimicrobieel middel, waardoor McDonald's vlees in zijn hamburgers kan gebruiken dat ongeschikt is voor menselijke consumptie.

Nog alarmerender is echter het feit dat deze op ammoniumwaterstof gebaseerde stoffen wereldwijd in de voedselindustrie worden beschouwd als "legale componenten van het productieproces", met de goedkeuring van de gezondheidsautoriteiten. Consumenten zullen dus nooit weten welke stoffen er in hun voedsel zitten.

If it wasn’t so unbelieveably controlling it would be laughable. It is being reported that not only do the government want to ban ALL social media use for under 16’s but they now also want to introduce a night time CURFEW for social media media use for 16 and 17 yr olds 😳 Not only is that going to be technically almost impossible to do, but the hypocrisy is off the scale.

This is the same government that want to give the vote to 16 yr olds. So they deem 16 and 17 yr olds capable of analysing politics theory, economics, world affairs and the news well enough to cast a vote that may determine the future of our society, but can’t log onto Facebook or watch a video on YouTube after 7pm 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️ They are literally going mad as we watch!!
