A video of a 66‑year‑old Christian pastor, Steve Maile, being arrested in Watford town centre has gone viral.

He was preaching, singing hymns and pop songs adapted to a Christian message.

Pastor Maile, a grandfather with no criminal record, was arrested after briefly criticising Islam and LGBT lifestyles while preaching, something he says he has done peacefully for decades.

Footage shows multiple police officers converging on him within seconds, placing him in handcuffs in full view of the public and his family.

The arresting officer arguably mocks the Christian faith by saying to him before putting him in the police car: 'In Jesus name get in the car.'

The Christian Legal Centre is now supporting his case.
