The news that our dear Rajesh left us while trying to rescue a person stranded in floodwaters in Cherupuzha, Kannur, brings immense pain. Rajesh lost his life after taking off his own life jacket, giving it to the drowning person, and ensuring they reached safety.
A specially trained member of the DSRF team formed by the KPCC for disaster relief operations, Rajesh was also an exceptional instructor who taught many people to swim, including in backwaters. He was an office-bearer of the Youth Congress in Kalliyoor, Nemom, Thiruvananthapuram.
Dear Rajesh will be honored with state honors. His unfinished home will also be completed for his family.

A dedicated responder who previously volunteered during past Kerala floods and the Wayanad disaster, Rajesh gave away his own life jacket to save a drowning person in Kannur’s Pulingome before succumbing to the floodwaters. His ultimate sacrifice and selfless love for humanity will forever be remembered.

Today, Thiruvananthapuram bade farewell to one of its bravest sons. Rajesh, whose heroic final act on the Tejasvi River has moved all of Kerala, was brought home and cremated, mourned by family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched and, in so many cases, saved.

I knew Rajesh personally and saw first hand the energy, warmth, and utter selflessness he brought to everything he did. The man who handed his own life jacket to a stranger in raging floodwaters was the same man who saved many lives in the 2018 floods and who rushed to Wayanad after the 2024 landslides, always ready to put himself at risk for others.

He asked nothing for himself in life. In death, we owe him this much: that his wife Lakshmi and his children are not left to face the future alone. I urge the government to extend every possible support to his family, and I will do all I can from my side as well.

Farewell, Rajesh. Your courage will outlive us all. Om Shanti.
