@TCCS_ACT I can get reliable, timely notifications of new X posts. For Facebook I'm lucky if I get a notification at all, let alone instantly.
Is there a way to get notifications, direct from the source?
@MarkusMannheim I hate it, but most of my employer's glossy brochures, CVs and proposals are created in PowerPoint and PDFed. Much easier to copy a slide from one ppt to another and keep or migrate styles. Word can slot chunks of text/content in, but it's harder for pages/layouts. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
@MarkusMannheim I think it's come from the decline of Microsoft Publisher - PowerPoint has a similar focus on page layout and graphic design vs text composition.
The decline started when they realised you could make 'portrait' slides. ๐
@PatrickGormanMP@AnikaWells Bizarre to have picked those 9 days from the middle of a campaign response to widespread flooding in Queensland and NSW between late-2021 and mid-2022.
@MarkusMannheim@MelanieTait Here's me cringing at news reports such as "such and such was killed after a plane crash".
"killed after" would imply the killing was a separate event, as opposed to "killed *by* a plane crash", or "died after..."
@MarkusMannheim@roadrunnerz45@actgovernment Heavier cars have larger tyres with larger ground footprint. It's not necessarily true that a 4wd places more pressure in the ground than a passenger car - ground pressure is roughly equal to tyre pressure.
A Toyota Yaris has higher tyre pressure than a Mitsubishi Challenger.
@MarkusMannheim In August 2013 I remember a night shift where I saw car and rubbish fires across the inner north (Civic, Turner, Reid, Braddon) , including 14 cars underneath Condamine Court in Turner and 2 at Allambee Street, Reid.

@MarkusMannheim@PhillipCoorey But will we still be debating this in 20 more years while continuing to dig downwards? Just because we'll be in a perilous situation by then doesn't mean that it would be pointless mitigating emissions at all...
@MarkusMannheim@PhillipCoorey How much would it cost to abate the ongoing emissions of an equivalent 1GW fossil fuel plant (if we even tried)? How many emissions could we have eliminated had investment started decades ago?
Yes, nuclear has waste - but it's contained rather than spewed into the atmosphere.
@MarkusMannheim The price (and description as 'standard' ) would instead be fitting of a 1 *gigawatt* plant. @PhillipCoorey has gotten his units mixed up pretty badly.
