In #Lesson12, one of the stabilization wedges mentioned was CCS — carbon capture and storage/sequestration.
How: CO2 is captured from large sources (factories, biomass power plants) and deposited into underground storages
Aim: reduce atmospheric CO2
#Lesson11 we’ve basically messed up the planet and we’re facing the effects of climate change, which are so complex and interrelate we don’t even understand them fully or know to the true extent of how we are affected as a human race at large
Now that I have finished all the lessons, I can say that I really enjoyed #PHYS273 and I hope to use the knowledge and tools acquired in my life to make a lasting change in the future... For now, stay safe everyone 💕
@delaram_farzin One of the only benefits of COVID-19 I suppose. It’s crazy how fast the environment can react and change from such a short period of time too. I heard Venice’s canals were clean and clear after decades of being murky.
#Lesson12 mitigation strategies are important moving forward. However, policies need to in place and there needs to be economic and political support on multiple scales (international, regional, national and sub-national)
Fun fact: Montreal Protocol has been called “the single most successful international agreement to date” by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
This was the agreement to collectively fight against ozone depletion in the 90s and now the ozone is healing!!!
