I don’t believe Accra’s flooding problems are impossible to fix or that we need a brand-new capital or a dictator to fix them.Right here on the continent, others are transforming their old, filthy, and chaotic cities with a mix of solutions. They didn’t build a new Dakar or Addis.
I’m Ghanaian. I’m happy when the Black Stars win. I wish them all the best. But…the team is HORRIBLE. I said it on the BBC last week and people came for my neck for betraying my country on a global platform. Here's why: https://t.co/LPQ9WWIIkx
People on this continent do not die from natural disasters. They die from natural events that governments had every tool, every warning and every opportunity to prevent, and chose not to.
We live in an era where engineers in seismic zones have mastered the science of building structures that sway violently during earthquakes, absorb the shock, and remain standing.
And then there is Africa, where seasonal rains kill people every single year and cause thousands to loose their homes.
Not hurricanes or cyclones. Mere seasonal rains that arrive on schedule every year, that meteorologists predict months in advance, that have been falling on the same cities and the same neighborhoods for decades.
Governance is our true national disaster on this continent.
Those Ambahidiots are too fucking vile man it’s mind boggling. Dark dark souls
Just always in the quotes and comments spewing bile
An absolutely disgusting set of people 🤮
The amount of rainfall recorded today is among the highest experienced in several years. Preliminary data indicates that approximately 140 millimetres of rain fell on Accra. By comparison, the highest single-day rainfall recorded last year was about 56 millimetres.
That aspect of the problem is beyond our control because it is driven by changing climatic conditions. There is the issue of human behaviour.
Whenever government begins removing structures built in waterways, some people accuse us of being inhumane. Yet when disasters such as today's flooding occur, the consequences affect everyone. The irresponsible actions of a few individuals end up putting entire communities at risk.
Good to call Maresca out properly but important that we don’t lose track of the two more important points
1) nobody forced them to make the situation worse by hiring Rosenior
2) that your manager resigned to join a rival is not something to parade about. It’s embarrassing
