[PRESS] NCT’s Doyoung provides ‘Comfort Snacks’ to seven military units nationwide: “I hope they find the strength to get back on their feet even during difficult times”
NCT’s Doyoung has spread his positive influence by making a donation to support the mental well-being of military personnel.
The Korea Foundation for Suicide Prevention (KFSH) is launching the “Mobile Comfort Snacks” initiative, which will visit military bases across the country to promote the mental well-being of military personnel and foster a culture of respect for life within the military. Funded by a donation from NCT’s Doyoung, the initiative aims to provide servicemen with warm encouragement and mental health support.
The foundation announced that the initiative will begin on the 22nd at the Republic of Korea Air Force’s 11th Fighter Wing in Daegu. From there, the “Mobile Comfort Snacks” initiative will visit seven major military bases across the country, including units from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps, through December.
The initiative is particularly meaningful as it was made possible through a donation from Doyoung, who is currently serving in the military. In April, Doyoung was appointed as a Life Ambassador for the “Life Protection Project”, a government-wide suicide prevention initiative, and has since been actively involved in spreading messages about the importance of respecting and cherishing life. In May, he made a donation of 100 million won to the Korea Foundation for Suicide Prevention to support military personnel experiencing suicidal crises and the mental health recovery of children and adolescents who have lost family members to suicide.
At each location, military personnel will receive suicide prevention education and undergo depression screening using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9).
A snack truck offering beverages and desserts will also be available, allowing servicemen who are exhausted from training and carrying out their duties to take a short break, relax and refresh their minds.
Through the distribution of snacks, the foundation hopes to ease the psychological burden on military personnel and help them feel more comfortable accessing mental health support services.
Jung Yoonsoon, Chairperson of the Korea Foundation for Suicide Prevention, stated, “The mental well-being of young servicemen who are fulfilling their national defence duties is an important issue that our society must address together. We will continue working to build a stronger suicide prevention safety net within the military.”
Doyoung, who has often shared the encouraging message, “Tomorrow will surely be a happier day” with his fans, also conveyed his heartfelt care and concern for military personnel through this donation.
Doyoung expressed his warm words of encouragement, saying, “I hope that my fellow servicemen, who are dedicating themselves to fulfilling their duty of national defence, will find the strength to get back on their feet rather than become discouraged when faced with difficult times.”
