Unifor 2000’s 140th birthday cake at congress banquet Sat. From left, Sec-Treas Bill Catterall, Pat Bulmer (ret'd) and Prez Brian Gibson served. VP Stephanie Ip handled cutting duties and Cathy Cartwright took photo. We've merged & changed names, but yes, it's been that long.
After 44 days of picketing and unwavering determination, 35 members of Unifor Local 114 at the Salvation Army in Langley, BC, have successfully ratified a new collective agreement. https://t.co/UyOv7pbyIN
It gets hard reading about newspaper closures, but when the writing is also a brilliant and heartbreaking personal essay by a longtime local journalist, it's a brilliant yet easy read about hard times for local news.
I will note that no such news has been shared about the same co’s print papers in Delta, Richmond and North Van.
The difference?
Those aren’t union papers, TC, Bby. and NW are.

Staff were told yesterday — VIA EMAIL.
The “papers” will apparently deliver news online only.
Staffing? Unknown.

Cleaning out the Vancouver Sun desk today - found Bal Buttar murder confession tapes, Jamie Bacon photos sent to me by his friend and stacks and stacks of files. Sigh….
As @postmedianet slowly but surely, and deliberately, dismantles the once great chain of daily newspapers across Canada, throwing readers onto the trash heap, i wonder how those executive salaries are holding up...
