Thank you Bob Joseph. You have deepened my thinking about how the school system back then was not a comfortable place for children. It really made me feel hurt and concerned for those children. They didn't have a say in what they believed in. #shelfietalk 1/2

I am committed to Reading books by Indigenous Authors. in the next 6 months. Literacy is so important for children and introducing literature from a different perspective really creates a wonderful learning opportunity. #shelfietalk

On Truth and Reconciliation day, we had the children participate in wearing the color Orange. We watched videos about the Indigenous culture and the children got to then learn and ask questions. #shelfietalk 1/2

@MegAnderson1984 I wasn't educated about the hardships that the Indigeous People faced until just recently. We need to be able to talk about the hard things even if they did happen in the past! #shelfietalk

The quote on pg. 85 “to kill the Indian in the child” was a very upsetting thing for me to read. This quote definitely made me think about how back then the children couldn’t even honour who they were and were told to be someone else. #shelfietalk

I was extremely educated by the end of the book about the different acts that were put into place and how it affected the Indigenous community. The acts really made the living situation a bit more challenging for everyone. #shelfietalk
