Some estimates point to the defense team led by Kaufman costing $2.5 million dollars a month, excluding miscellaneous expenses like research trips which could cost more. That's approximately P140 million pesos a month, meaning the Duterte family could very well have already paid their private lawyer and his team over 1 billion pesos since Duterte's arrest.

How could they pay that when their filed Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth isn't anywhere near that amount?

- Rodrigo Duterte: Net worth (June 2022) at P37,305,462.17
- Paolo “Pulong” Duterte: Net Worth (2017) at P27.74M

Even ignoring the shady way their net worth GREW when Rodrigo was in power and assuming their reported wealth was accurate plus legitimately made (the REPORTED net worth of Sara Duterte rose by more than 1,000% – from more than P7.2 million in 2007 to P88.5 million in 2024), that's still not enough to cover Rodrigo's legal fees.

Where on Earth are they getting the money to pay Kaufman? Can they answer this or is it the Filipino taxpayer indirectly subsidizing his legal defense?
