Yesterday, the DG welcomed Professor Akin Ogundiran, a world-renowned archaeologist and historian from Northwestern University, USA, author of "Yoruba: A New History." We discussed partnering to teach Yoruba history accurately in the SW.

We have been excavating a blacksmithing compound in Ede Ile. We are learning that ironworking was an important economic activity in the Oyo colony, raising questions on the relationships between technology, Oyo imperial expansion, and colonization in the Early Modern Period.
Thanks to Ọba Adésọlá Lawal, the King of Ẹdẹ, for welcoming the 2024 Oyo Empire Project team to his palace. This year marks the 20th anniversary of my first fieldwork in Ẹdẹ-Ilé, one of the empire's colonies. I'm glad to continue the research with an incredible team.
Big congratulations to Dr @machmangut on his new role as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Nicholas D. Chabraja Center for Historical Studies, Northwestern University! Big deal!
