If you knew how quickly people would forget about you after your death, you would not seek in your life to please anyone but God.
John Chrysostom, circa 387
Happy Labor Day. If you work for a small business, as you enjoy a paid day off, consider that no one labors harder than your boss. Without the entrepreneur taking risks, your job wouldn't exist. Employees get paid no matter what. Employers only get paid if their risks pay off.
You know it's a good marriage when you crave your spouse, not just in a sexual or romantic way, but also in a way where you just want to be around them, you want to feel their presence, hear their voice, see them laughing .. and overall just cherish your connection to them.
This is Thomas Jefferson’s famous 1802 “separation of Church & State letter to the Danbury Baptists. It wasn’t arguing to remove religion. Rather, it explained that the federal government could neither establish a national church nor interfere with the free exercise of religion.
Thomas Paine publishes an open letter in the Pennsylvania Evening Post, under the name “Republicus,” which advocates for the name “United States of America” for the new nation now emerging.
This is the first time such a term has been used.
The human brain makes approximately 35,000 decisions per day.
Around 200 of those are about food.
Fewer than 100 are genuinely conscious.
The rest are made on autopilot — habit, environment, emotion.
Every addiction, every habit, every impulse purchase happens in the 34,900 decisions you're not paying attention to.
The people who know this best aren't scientists.
They're advertisers.

If you don’t believe miracles happen, my op-ed on the doctrine of Providence, complete with reference to RC Sproul and the Westminster larger catechism, is the lead in the Washington Post’s opinion section of today’s Sunday edition. 😄

Jordan Peterson on a truth that should humble all of us:
“I’ve never seen anyone get away with anything. Not even once.”
You might twist the fabric of reality for a while — bend the rules, cut corners, play games — but it always snaps back. Sometimes years later, in ways you never saw coming. That’s why “the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” Not terror, but deep respect for the order of things.
You get away with nothing in the end.
In a culture that increasingly celebrates short-term cleverness and moral flexibility, this is a sobering reminder that reality keeps perfect score.
God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
What about you — have you ever watched someone “get away with it”… only for it to catch up with them later in unexpected ways?

I have heard it said, “God didn’t die for frogs. He died for humans, implying we were worth the sacrifice.” This turns grace on its head. We are less deserving than frogs. They have not sinned. They have not rebelled and treated God with the contempt of being inconsequential in their lives. God did not have to die for frogs. They aren’t bad enough. We are. Our debt is so great, only a divine sacrifice could pay it.
