I think some version of this works. Coaches really want their teams in the water through holiday training, but I don't think they need to be.

The December to February stretchout would be a bit weird because you'd wind up with 2 months where only .1% of college swimmers are still competing.

(On the surface might help save operational costs, which as we can see by current events is a problem)

@PantherLair Only two (maybe three hockey? but it is not as common) sports in college athletics make revenue, basketball and football. All you have to do is look at Pitt’s schedule, and you can understand what is happening across the sport.
