What's new w/the Annual Soils Refresh? By the numbers: 56M acres of new #soils data; 3,377 soil survey areas published; tabular data refreshed; spatial data refreshed for 700 areas; 117 soils interps published; 36k new soil polygons; 2k new map units; & 16k new soil components.

In this study, we see that cover crops can help preserve soil microbial complexity in ecosystems affected by salinization. The insights can help us shape cropping practices in stressed ecosystems for increased sustainability.

I went to a school to teach 8th graders about soils & conservation. I brought up the Dust Bowl and these kids had no idea what I was talking about! A teacher told me later that they don’t learn about it until 11th grade. We need to be teaching about resource conservation earlier.
