Apologies but I got 4 hours of sleep last night and this is gonna be another long one. Prior to yesterday, in the entire history of the German national team only one player had ever missed a penalty during a pen shootout at a World Cup: His name was Uli Stielike and that team still managed to to go through beating France 5-4 o n pens at the 1982 World Cup.

Yesterday, Germany added a whole THREE PLAYERS to that list. Kai Havertz, Woltemade, and Jonathan Tah. Woltemade's pen in particular stood out because it was clear he had no confidence in the approach whatsoever. His pen was a symptom of the problem because it's what happened before pens even began that encapsulates what's wrong with this generation. You could hear Kimmich on the sideline screaming for players to step up. Goretzka was legit soiling his pants he was so scared and backed down from the responsibility. Players you would expect to rise to the occasion didn't and so Jonathan Tah, who had never taken a pen in his entire career, was forced into action and then he kicked a ball that apparently is being used aboard the International Space Station because it made it all the way up there.

This team peaked against Curacao, played well but got lucky against the Ivory Coast, lost to Ecuador and then got CONMEBOL'd by Paraguay. For all it's talent the lack of creativity from this team is unacceptable. The lack of confidence is inexcusable. Maybe Nagelsmann needs to go. Maybe it's the players. Maybe Klopp is the answer. It's probably everything. Whatever and whoever it is, they need to create a culture that won't allow what happened at this tournament to EVER happen again. Also congratulations to Paraguay except number 23 Galarza that guy is an absolute freak.
