Narcissists operate from a place of deep insecurity masked by arrogance, manipulation and a need for control. They often seek out people who are empathetic, kind, and self reflective because those traits make you more likely to excuse their bad behavior and doubt your own perception.
Overt time, they slowly chip away at your confidence and reality. They gaslight you and turn situations around and make everything feel like it’s your fault.
This can lead to confusion, shame and isolation. You start to believe that if you were just a little better, quieter, more loving or more patient, that they would finally treat you the way you deserve. But that moment never comes.
Once you finally see the narcissist for who they really are—what they lie about, what they’re capable of, and what truly drives them—it’s horrifying.
And then you watch them go about their life… Smiling. Holding down jobs as nurses, therapists, teachers, pastors—positions of trust. Socializing. Charming people. Fooling everyone.
And you realize: If people knew the truth about who they really are, everything would look different.
But the world doesn’t see behind the mask. And that’s what makes it so chilling.
If a malignant narcissist wants to destroy someone, they develop a false narrative about that person, including misconstruing details of that person‘s life to make them seem nefarious. They are excellent story tellers, except it’s all false, designed to destroy another person.
Narcissists carefully control their image. To the public, they show charm, competence, and respectability. To their chosen targets, they reveal their cruelty—because that’s the part they really enjoy. They want their targets to see their true, nasty side, knowing it will provoke anger. Then, when the target finally speaks up, the narcissist is protected by the clean image they’ve built. The target looks like the unstable one, while the narcissist plays innocent.
Narcissists know exactly what they're doing-either they're sadistic enough to enjoy your pain or so delusional and grandiose that they genuinely
believe you deserved it.
I’m really tired of the honest people being held to a higher standard than the dishonest malignant narcissists who seem to be allowed to get away with anything.
We are not called to protect our institutions, nor do we protect the God of truth by covering up sin and/or a crime. To do so is to “protect” a cancer—and cancer kills. We honor God by caring for the wounded and by dragging sin to the light and calling it by its right name.
You are not an "angry person." You are a deeply sensitive & aware person who experienced things worth being angry about, & your nervous & endocrine systems are responding appropriately.
Your anger is a sign that something is RIGHT with you, not that something is wrong or broken.
Narcissists attack the things they feel threatened by:
-Honest people
-Genuine people
-Compassionate people
-Morally grounded people
These qualities expose what the narcissist lacks.
Rather than reflect or grow, they react with hostility.
To protect their ego, they project their own dark traits onto the good.
They twist the truth and paint you as the villain.
If you're being attacked by a narcissist for no good reason,
You're probably everything they pretend to be—and can’t stand to see.
This word from @PaulTripp is spot on.
“Two of the angriest men I ever counseled were two of the best non-seminary trained theologians. They were guys who just loved the labyrinthine nature of Biblical theology, and they had studied it, but that theology hadn’t transformed their living. And it was all about them, and everything made them angry.
I mean, if everything makes me angry, that’s me in the center of my world as king. But they could have passed a third-year level theology exam with no problem.”
Narcissists don’t smear campaign someone because that person is doing something wrong.
They smear campaign someone because that person is doing something right and it threatens them.
Systemic abuse occurs when a system, such as a family, a government entity, a school, a church, a religious organization, or a political group, enables the abuse of the people it purports to protect.
