@yjkive BTS perform their last European concert on the Arirang tour in France on the 18th of July. They will fly to NYC after the concert to do rehearsal and half time show on the 19th. Their next concert after the FIFA half time show is Aug 1st in New Jersey.
@luenacore Bang Shi-hyuk started Big Hit in 2005 by investing $50k he had saved as head producer for JYPE. That year his father was retired with a grade 1 pension that paid $ 35-47k/yr.
@luenacore 1995 the middle class income average for SKorea was $2,470 USD monthly ($29,640/yr). 70.2% identified as middle class. Bang Geuk-yoon earned an estimated annual salary of 26 million to 32 million KRW (roughly $34,000 to $41,000 USD at 1995 rates).
@cassildez_@wpjminnie@ariranguinho The difference is scale and impact in US. Kpop was a niche market with a reliance on downloads and small targeted imports. BTS was the first to have country wide retail distribution. By 2016 BTS had already doubled the sales numbers of the top Kpop acts of the time in US sales.
@StayvilleKarma That 5 minutes is in front of 82.5k in the venue with 1.6 billion watching live worldwide. iHeart radio has a tv audience of 3-500k and 16 billion social media impressions. The Governors Ball has a max crowd capacity of 50k & no stream or live broadcast partner.
@IgotNoJams0613@lirrceex Relevance is understanding that BTS like the others were nobodies in the US 2014 & the Kpop niche market was very small. You counter arguments of BAP potential success with facts of how obscure they were and that no one was really successful in the US before BTS took off in 2016
@IgotNoJams0613@lirrceex The perspective is to show not a single Kpop act was making a noticeable dent in the US in 2014 & "success" was a low bar. BAP was at their peak when they went on hiatus. The BAP to BTS comparison is to show they were already equal before the hiatus and before BTS took off
@IgotNoJams0613@lirrceex Perspective time. 2014 was the year Taylor Swift released 1989. First week sales was 1.27 million. 2NE1 had the biggest first week for Kpop in US that year with 5k in sales. BAP and BTS were about even in sales for their 2 releases each that year with first week sales avg of 1k
@skz_stan4ever Hate to break it to you but the Governor's Ball doesn't rank in the top 10 for attendance. It is limited to 3 days with a cap of 50k attendance/day, but does pull decent revenue from sponsors and ticket sales.
@cassildez_ BAP was the biggest Kpop group in the US 2012-2014. Their one year hiatus stalled any momentum they had in growing a US fanbase. They never got above the theater tour level (5k or less seat venues) in the US even with a #1 album in 2016. The arrest of Him-chan killed any comeback
@Samsonthegoat25 The halftime show is Madonna, Shakira and BTS. Drake's only connection to the world cup is his clothing brand partnering with Nike to do a football fit and sneaker honoring the Canadian team.
