Crypto isn’t random.
It’s a liquidity cycle.
Liquidity expands → markets pump.
Liquidity tightens → people get rekt.
Most Nigerians don’t understand this.
I break down macro & crypto through a Nigerian lens.
No hype.
No signals.
Just frameworks.
10-year yield hit 4.683% — highest since 2007. "Investors losing confidence in inflation path" — some assume.
Same day, Fed hike odds fell 50% to 40%, and foreign buyers took 76.73% of the auction. This is supply pressure, not fading confidence.
🇺🇸The US issued new 10-year bonds yesterday at 4.683%, the highest auction yield since global financial crisis.
Despite cooling CPI, investors are demanding higher yield due to inflation risks and reduced Fed guidance on interest rates.
A central bank tightening while its currency strengthens says something different than tightening while it weakens.
CBN hiked despite naira's strongest level since June and N4.4T in bids overwhelming a N700B offer. It didn't need to. It chose to — this liquidity cycle isn't done
@Nairametrics CBN hiked its 1-year T-bill to 17.59% — defying N4.4T in bids — even as naira hit N1,360/$, strongest since June.
Tightening from strength, not weakness. Don't read naira strength as pressure easing. Watch if CBN keeps hiking through further strength — that's the real signal.
@cryptorover "CPI hitting 4.2% could end badly for crypto" — treated as a fresh warning.
It's not fresh. 4.2% already happened in May. June cooled to 3.5%, July's expected near 3.4%. The real question is whether disinflation continues, not whether 4.2% is coming.
@Cointelegraph "Futures-driven rally, fragile" — Ki Young Ju's April call, and it proved right.
But that same month, ETFs pulled in $1.97B — best month of 2026. "Apparent demand" measures on-chain spot only, missing real buying flowing through ETF wrappers.
@Cointelegraph USDT's 60-day contraction hit $5B. "Selling exhaustion, bottom forming" — some assume.
CryptoQuant's own report says this pattern is historically bullish AND that short-term indicators still favor downside.
Watch for USDT supply to turn positive before calling it exhaustion.
@cryptoquant_com@Satoureireal "LTH accumulation still not enough to reverse the decline" — quoted as current.
That's a February read. By July, Glassnode showed LTHs had already flipped to full net accumulation. Check the date before repeating an old "not enough yet" claim.
The CLARITY Act got delayed again. Bitcoin barely reacted.
The Senate punted the vote past August recess — a real setback. Price rose anyway, with steady ETF inflows and a softer dollar doing more work than Washington did.
@BullTheoryio $96B in Japanese insurer bond losses. "Japan is trapped" — some assume.
Losses are mostly unrealized — insurers hold to maturity, and rising rates cut future liabilities too.
Real risk: policyholder surrenders forcing sales. Watch that, not the headline number.
The Rule: Before assuming history repeats at the same intensity, check whether the market is being warned or surprised — that difference decides whether it's a grind or a cascade.
If this changed how you think about crypto — repost it. Someone in your TL needs this.
Tweet 1:
The exact same policy move can crash markets once and barely register the second time.
Nothing about the mechanism changes. Something else does.

This doesn't mean a telegraphed hike carries zero risk.
Yen-funded positions are still real exposure, and unwinds can still hurt. But "everyone saw this coming" and "nobody saw this coming" are two different risk profiles wearing the same headline.
@cryptorover BOJ hike odds rising. "Next unwind will be bigger than 2024" — some assume.
2024 hit hard because it was a surprise. This time it's been signaled for months, with Treasury involvement. A telegraphed hike unwinds gradually — surprise is what causes cascades.
@coinbureau Everyone reads low volume as "bear setup" - True. But the Missed part: thin markets let small orders move price the most.
A handful of trades in a $1.7B day carries outsized weight. Not bearish by default — just means the next move could be sharper than usual.
Two completely different stories can produce the exact same jobs report.
Weak growth could mean inflation's cooling — or just the economy slowing without inflation improving. Both look identical in the headline number, but only one justifies the cuts markets are pricing in.
@Cointelegraph Dollar's at a 2-month low. "Dovish Fed path confirmed" — some assume.
BNY's own strategist says markets need proof of real disinflation, not just weaker growth — those look identical in a jobs report but mean different things.
This week's CPI decides which one it actually is.
@Crypto_Crib_ BTC ETFs pulled $853M, ETH added $245M. "Broad demand returning" — some assume.
80%+ of the BTC total came from IBIT alone. And price stayed flat near $65K the same week — meaning selling elsewhere may be absorbing the buying entirely.
