@Doc1966Damien@IrishRainforest Yes, same here but 8000km. What are insectivorous birds and bats going to feed on, let alone those plants that require insects for pollination.
Mouse ate its weight in mince in 3 hours.
Imagine this hunger for meat in a nest of defenceless baby birds.
It's not just the big introduced predators that cause species extinctions in Australia.
But only the big ones get the predator-proof fences.
@SaraJade_13 A reasoned, comprehensive, timely and sorely needed statement on a highly divisive issue. So glad that we have at least a few journalists of the calibre of Laura Tingle. Unfortunately they are relentlessly attacked by the rw media, especially Murdoch press.
The ABC's treatment of Laura Tingle is of a piece with its decades-long uncritical coverage of climate denialism in the name of balance and its constant platforming of News Corp and IPA commentators despite their lack of expertise or credibility.
@Farmer_Dave999 @DingoResearch Agree that both are problems but so is habitat loss and degradation. Re cats and foxes, I find it interesting that small natives are doing ok in Tasmania and Kangaroo Island where the habitat is suitable when both have feral cats and rabbits but no foxes. Why?
@DingoResearch A problem with both foxes and cats, it is next to impossible to reduce and maintain their densities at very low levels so that we can run treatment vs non treatment studies. Pest free enclosures give an insight but they influence several factors.
Here's a Victorian government agency using public funds to breed and release feral fish pests - trout. It's scandalous. The equivalent of a land management agency breeding and releasing rabbits. Why does the Victorian government want to destroy native fish and ecosystems?
"Fox populations in agricultural areas are estimated to be between 1250 & 2500 foxes within a 10km radius of you.
The use of firearms alone is unable to reduce numbers enough to be effective, as fox reproduction or immigration will quickly fill in the gaps." @gill
Chris Uhlmann:
"Sky stands tall in the Australian media landscape. You may not agree with it, but you can’t ignore it.”
I've very successfully ignored Sky. I've never watched it once. Who else hasn't?
Any Aussie news org which has knowingly paid large sums of money to credibly accused rapists for entertainment, dining out, accommodation &/or drug-taking purposes isn’t fit to hold a media licence & such licence should be immediately cancelled.
Who agrees?
@Channel7
#SevenSucks
I would say Bruce Lehrmann is in quite a state at the moment as things are not going as planned plus, he needs to move out of his apartment and channel 7 needs to front up tomorrow to court as witness.🤔😊
@LoneRangifer You are correct, it depends: who has the concern, what is the damage they’re causing, can it be managed, if so how and what cost and will it be effective. Also, are cats/foxes the key issue or other factors: habitat loss/degradation, lack of ot key resources?
