The politics of Oppenheimer (the film) are so funny to me. At a time when so many modern filmmakers pay lip-service to leftist causes while making art that's actually quite regressive, Nolan of all people made the most left-leaning major American movie in years (Avatars aside)
Somewhere at the center of those dilemmas is Austin.
Why am I here? Why do I always feel stuck here? Why do I always want to leave? Why do I never feel connected to this place or anyone here? But then why do I always return?
It feels part of what must die within me.
I really need to do parts work around Austin. What is it that keeps me coming back? What is it that keeps me wanting to leave every time I'm here? Why do I hate this place so much right now? I know it's got something to do with me never feeling like I'm enough...
Now I'm here only wanting a life that is given purpose by way of serving people I care about. People I love.
And then there's this vague "community" impulse that I want to impact and serve. But it's nebulous and unseen. Do I volunteer? Do I start an online business?
