#Masoala National Park and the area around it is arguably the most beautiful part of #Madagascar. You can walk between #Maroantsetra and #Antalaha. 2-3 days if you'll use moto-taxi and 4-5 days to walk the whole distance. It's an easy hike, about 2 km in pristine jungle.

"Taxis-brousse" is usually a #Mercedes transporter turned into a mini-bus. These vehicles can be a few decades old, but they are kept it a running condition. They are the primary mean of transportation all around #Madagascar. Oh, and they can take a cow on the roof.

Single mothers in their early 20s (and younger) is a common sight in the cities of #Madagascar. This is the result of lacking sexual education, the means for contraconception, transactional sex and unwillingness of man to take care of accidental children.

#Antsiranana hosts best preserved colonial infrastructure in #Madagascar. It's the city where you will feel closer to Europe than anywhere else on the island. That is, if you're not going to leave the center.

The road between #Ambilobe and #Vohemar is new. It was rebuilt just about 2 years ago. It's probably the best drive you can have in #Madagascar right now. There's little traffic, not many police checks on the way and little to no threat from the bandits known as dahalo.

The Mahavavy Bridge in #Ambilobe collapsed during the last cyclone season (March 2024). A temporary replacement is in place. #Madagascar

The bus (taxis-brousse) ride between #Antananarivo and #Fianarantsoa is 408 km and takes about 12 hours. This assummes no complication on the route and a lunch break in #Antsirabe.
