Message to our Diaspora brothers and sisters, when they come “home” to Zim. The words I’m about to say are out of love and I’m an ex diaspora, so I was once guilty of this too, but have since learnt:
1) You are on holiday. We are NOT. We have shit to do. Don’t assume that coz you are around , all we just do is drive you around and entertain you.
2) We don’t give a fuck how much it costs in England, or how much “better it is”. We don’t think in Quids. And believe it or not, we don’t know what the Zig is either. Nywe Nywe Nywe in Toronto Nywe Nywe your POS.
3) We don’t really hang with Sekuru nhingi and we haven’t seen Tete Chakuti since you last came. We don’t fux with rellies like you do.
4) We can have mazoe and boerwors everyday. It’s not a treat for us. We ain’t trying to BBQ with Yall every weekend like we ain’t got other shit to do.
5) We know that you’re low level workers (statistically) where you come from, so don’t think you can come and try impose your superiority coz of your posh accent. Too many times we see Careworkers trying to tell PHDs what shit they should do to fix paMusha 🤣. Your Mukuru remittance doesn’t change the pecking order in the family.
6) Yes , we will eat your money and drink your drinks. I’m only out coz of yo ass. I’m happy to chill at my cabin.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
🔸Your biggest fear when you’re in jail is that people will forget your plight. When your lawyer, family or friends visit, your first question to them is - vanhu varikuti chii?
In the confidential interview room or space, you ask your lawyer if you can see their phone to see whether there’s any solidarity. For this reason, it’s important for us not to forget Dhara @bbmhlanga’s plight. Let’s continue to demand his freedom because journalism is not a crime. Our Constitution protects media freedom.
If you stand in solidarity with this fearless journalist, RETWEET.
We need new leaders. #FreeBlessedMhlanga🇿🇼
An Academic conference at the University of Zimbabwe on Media Against Phobias was stopped by "Authorities" becoz they were not happy with some of the presentations done yesterday. The irony is the conference was on media and tolerance.#Asakhe
