The Wounded Knee Massacre was not a battle but the intentional killing of hundreds of Lakota Sioux by U.S. soldiers in 1890.
About 350 primarily Lakota Sioux, majority of them unarmed women, children, and elderly people, were intercepted, while moving toward Pine Ridge, by 500 soldiers from the 7th Cavalry, equipped with rifles and four Hotchkiss rapid-fire cannons set up on a hill overlooking the encampment.
The U.S. Army attempted to disarm the few warriors, (estimated 15–30 rifles, and most were older, poor-quality), who carried weapons. A scuffle broke out and reportedly a rifle went off during the confiscation. The soldiers opened fire with rifles and Hotchkiss machine guns positioned around the camp.
Estimated 250–300 of the Lakota Sioux was killed, many of them women and children, and 25 U.S Army soldiers, many likely from crossfire.
Once shooting began, it became a one-sided massacre rather than a fight, and it is also recognized rightly as a massacre, not a battle, because the Lakota were vastly outgunned, largely non-combatant, especially the women, children, and elders who made up most of the victims.

Let me get this straight: The same Supreme Court that ruled colleges CAN’T use race in the admissions process has just ruled that law enforcement officers CAN use race to conduct raids and detain people. You can’t make this up.
