A 20-year-old Darren Anderton arrived from Portsmouth for £1.75m. Over the next 12 years, he would make 358 appearances, scoring 49 goals and became one of Spurs' most popular players, helping us win the League Cup in 1999.

Five days after the 1982 FA Cup Final draw, Spurs beat QPR 1-0 in the Wembley replay thanks to Glenn Hoddle’s early penalty. Tottenham became the first club to win FA Cup Final replays in successive years.

Spurs beat Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley to win the first ever all-London FA Cup Final in 1967. Jimmy Robertson and Frank Saul scored as Bill Nicholson’s young Spurs side outclassed Chelsea and extended their unbeaten run to 24 matches.

In the first leg of the UEFA Cup final, Anderlecht, whose run to the showpiece had been marred by controversy, were at home to Tottenham.

The game finished 1-1, with Paul Miller scoring the Spurs goal that had given them the lead.
