I am at The Green House, a cocktail bar in Iowa City where Travis Terrell is holding his watch party. Terrell is running for the democratic nomination in Iowa’s first congressional district. Polls are officially closed and attendees are awaiting results. @TheDailyIowan
The votes are in, Jennifer Horn-Frasier beat out Dan Stevenson for a third place finish in the Iowa City school board elections. The other two open seats were taken by incumbents Ruthina Malone and Jayne Finch. @TheDailyIowan
At Jennifer Horn-Frasier’s election night watch party, waiting for results to come in.
Jennifer if surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones. She is currently in third, beating Dan Stevenson by 221 votes as of 9:09 PM.
Ahead of election results, Horn-Frasier is feeling nervous but hopeful.
“The beautiful suprise [of my campaign for school board] has been the opportunity to feel more connected to my community,” Horn-Frasier said.

Joseph and Dawn Willgang are residents of Iowa City. Dawn said that she voted for Bruce Teague, saying that she wanted him to stay on city council.
“We think he’s done a great job as mayor, and representing Iowa City,” Dawn said.
Judith Wightman is a staff nurse at the University of Iowa hospital, and said she was excited to cast her vote for a good friend of hers, school board candidate Jennifer Horn-Frasier.
“I’ve never seen someone that I know on the ballot, so that is super cool,” Wightman said.
Betty Garces is a research coordinator for the University of Iowa. Garces has a young child at home who recently started school in the ICCSD.
“Because we are not white there have been some issues that have come up, particularly in terms of discrimination,” Garces said.
Iowa City Resident Evelyn Fry cast her vote around 5:10 PM. She has concerns relating to school board issues.
“I was slightly concerned with some of the expenditures that the school board has authorized,” Fry said.
Fry adds that she is trying to elect new board members.
I just arrived at West High School, one of the polling places for the Iowa City City Council and School Board elections. It is about 8 a.m., not a lot of voters yet but it should pick up.
