I wrote about the difference between Kyle-Gibson-type middle-aged-pitcher fantasies (using your wits and guile to escape certain death) and the Lance Lynn type (propping yourself against a wall and blasting through waves of your enemies until you die)

Hunter Dobbins is the kind of modern starter designed in a lab to confuse me. Fourth-starter types who touch 97, get-me-over splitters... not sure what I'm supposed to do with this
Jordan Walker pulling a 114 mph missile to third base at a 6 degree launch angle, result happiness.
Jordan Walker pulling a 114 mph missile to third base at a -6 degree launch angle, result misery.
My understanding from hours of detailed study (listening to podcasts with Eno Sarris on them) is that an 89 mph gyro slider should be pretty good, but hitters do not seem fooled by it
@valavineyards When they "sent him down" I assumed the point was to just get him comfortable going way down the mound again, but—and, huge disclaimer, I have not watched either outing—right now it seems like he's just exactly the same guy he was in April
If he wants to just go on a hot streak in Memphis that's fine too, but it would have been nice to see Bernal in AA to start the year just to get one chance to see what he's like when he's the right age for his level
@SteveEnders8 Yeah, he's hit some very bad pitches a million feet, which will serve him just fine in the majors if he can stop chasing pitches out of the zone and wait for the meatballs
Trying very hard to be conservative about Joshua Baez as he brings his K rate back down but when you hit home runs in every plate appearance your K rate doesn't go down as fast as your OPS goes up so I'm having a tough time https://t.co/wweMKw3G1T
Joshua Báez, the @Cardinals' No. 3 prospect, crushes his 6th homer in the past 7 games and 17th of the season for the @memphisredbirds!
110.8 mph | 429 feet
@CyLiamDoyle Yeah I guess I just think that some people overrate him, and some people patrol the replies to Statcast catch probability posts to say he's a fraud, but the median is pretty much right. It's not a situation like Jeter where people just don't realize he sucks on defense for 10 yrs
The tarps off thing is fun but now that we've recovered that type of guy for baseball we have to remember that they're often dumb. The "overrated" chant always sucks, but especially when the guy is not overrated. Act like you've been there (at a game with your shirt off) before
@CyLiamDoyle I mean he was probably overrated last July, at the top of his hot streak, but he was 9th in the NL last year in rWAR and fWAR and he's on his way to repeating that this year. It's hard for me to say he's being rated higher than that, especially after the backlash
It's impossible to always avoid the siren song of caring about "I think people like this guy more than they should" but you can just think about whether he's good or not instead and save yourself a step
People thought I was a crank when I said teams' social media accounts should do nothing except tweet the score of the game and uncaptioned videos of highlight plays, but I was just early
Is it weird that Michael McGreevy's cutter is so slow relative to his slider? (sitting 86 and 84 today). Non-rhetorical question, I do not know the answer to a single question about cutters
