This needs to be seriously prosecuted by the DENR/Ombudsman. Show that the government is serious in giving meaning to the people’s right to a clean and healthy environment. Otherwise, it will be business as usual for LGUs violating envi laws.
Wag kayong maniniwala sa mga hotels when they say they are not liable for your vehicles and belongings when you park in their properties. Malinaw ang batas under the new Civil Code:
ARTICLE 1998. The deposit of effects made by travellers in hotels or inns shall also be regarded as necessary. The keepers of hotels or inns shall be responsible for them as depositaries, provided that notice was given to them, or to their employees, of the effects brought by the guests and that, on the part of the latter, they take the precautions which said hotel-keepers or their substitutes advised relative to the care and vigilance of their effects. (1783)
ARTICLE 1999. The hotel-keeper is liable for the vehicles, animals and articles which have been introduced or placed in the annexes of the hotel. (n)
ARTICLE 2000. The responsibility referred to in the two preceding articles shall include the loss of, or injury to the personal property of the guests caused by the servants or employees of the keepers of hotels or inns as well as by strangers; but not that which may proceed from any force majeure. The fact that travellers are constrained to rely on the vigilance of the keeper of the hotel or inn shall be considered in determining the degree of care required of him. (1784a)
Waivers of these rights are void:
ARTICLE 6. Rights may be waived, unless the waiver is contrary to law, public order, public policy, morals, or good customs, or prejudicial to a third person with a right recognized by law. (4a)
The hotel is liable for the damages without prejudice to their right to go after the actual offender. @seantristan_

#SaraOnTrial: People were arrested during the Duterte administration over alleged threats to the president. Prosecutors say his daughter, VP Sara, should be held to the same standard in her impeachment trial.

‘BAKIT GINANITO PO NILA?’
In the “Ibinasurang Paraiso” documentary of I-Witness, Kara David brought to light the story behind the mountains of trash dumped in the middle of a forest in Subic, Zambales.
“Parang nagagalit po na hindi ko po maintindihan ang sarili ko po. Naawa din po ako sa lugar. Bakit ginanito po nila?” Erlinda Capistrano, one of the residents in the area, said in the documentary.
“Itong lugar na ito, bangin daw ito dati. Pero ngayon halos napatag na ‘yung lupa kasi tinambakan nila nang tinambakan nang tinambakan ng basura,” David narrated. (YouTube/I-Witness)
An indigenous rights advocate has raised concerns after reports that several Ayta residents who appeared in Kara David's newest I-Witness documentary were allegedly summoned by local officials in Subic, Zambales following the program's broadcast.
The July 11 documentary, "Ibinasurang Paraiso," examined an alleged illegal dumpsite in Sitio Tibag, Naugsol, an area within Ayta ancestral lands. Residents interviewed in the report spoke about the site's alleged impact on the environment, nearby bodies of water, and their community.
Rodriguez said Ayta residents have the right to speak about issues affecting their health, environment, livelihood, and ancestral lands, adding, "Ang kanilang tinig ay hindi dapat patahimikin, takutin, o pigilan."
She also stressed that freedom of expression is protected under the Philippine Constitution, while the Indigenous Peoples' Rights Act recognizes the rights of indigenous communities to defend their culture, ancestral domains, and other rights.
"Ang pagsasalita sa isang lehitimong mamamahayag at pagbabahagi ng katotohanan sa isang dokumentaryo ay hindi paglabag sa batas," Rodriguez said, adding that telling the truth in a democratic society should never become grounds for intimidation or harassment.
She argued that if any investigation should take place, it should focus on the allegations surrounding the dumpsite and its reported environmental impact, rather than on the indigenous residents who spoke about their experiences.
"Kung may dapat man imbestigahan," she said, "hindi ang mga katutubong naglakas-loob magsalita, kundi ang mga pangyayaring naging dahilan kung bakit may mga reklamo ukol sa ilegal na dumpsite at sa pinsalang idinulot nito sa kalikasan at sa pamayanang katutubo."
As of writing, the Subic local government has yet to publicly address the allegation that the residents had been summoned.

No Sacred Cows. Justice Now.
A young woman lost her life in a hit‑and‑run along Ortigas Avenue. The SUV involved — a white Toyota Land Cruiser with plate number SSS‑11 — was reportedly driven by the 20‑year‑old son of its registered owner.
Whether the driver or the owner is a lawmaker or not, they must surrender. Our authorities must act swiftly and decisively. The House Committee on Transportation has already said the authenticity of the congressional sticker can be verified — control numbers don’t lie.
But beyond stickers and protocol plates, what matters is accountability. No privilege, no position, no influence should shield anyone from the law.
The victims deserve justice. The public deserves truth. And the nation deserves leaders and citizens who respect life and the rule of law.
No sacred cows, please. Let justice prevail.
NINE-DASH line is illegal!
China’s “draw-it-yourself” map strategy is a convenient shortcut around international law. A few dotted lines on a map do not create legal rights or erase others’ sovereignty. Borders are decided by law, not by Beijing’s imagination.
A portion of the Aeta community's ancestral land in Subic, Zambales was converted into a dumpsite in 2019, impacting livelihoods and the environment.
The Subic LGU responsible for the project said it was unaware that the area was inhabited.

Congressman Pulong Duterte, do you ever feel bothered by your conscience seeing the people of Mindanao losing their lives and suffer in the way they do, year in year out because of flooding?
When you took the P51 billion from the taxpayers’ money during your father’s failed administration, under cover of the stench of thousands of deaths and the dying from the Covid19 pandemic, did you and your father not not think about the ordinary people of Mindanao and elsewhere who has been suffering from the corruption your family brought into the nation of 115 million Filipinos?
Your father, the inutile Rodrigo Duterte, knew of the corruption that has plagued the country for so long. But he was to tell the nation later— “there’s nothing I can do.” Instead of fighting it as he promised, he not only joined the criminal enterprise— he became the figurehead and centralised his government’s criminal operations, thereby optimising his grip on power and influence. Funding for flood control projects were not only stolen and manipulated, he entrenched and consolidated people into positions of power and influence, himself as the kingpin. Under his regime, flood control projects fund scams flourished and made its heyday. He became the very symbol and protector of corruption he sought to overcome.
Fast forward in the middle of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte, we witnessed her thick-skinned Chief of Staff Zuleika Lopez, callously declaring— “prepare for Typhoon Inday” as if the tragedy is not enough.
On its latest, Typhoon Inday killed 5 people and 6 others missing in one location alone in Maguindanao for a total of 17 deaths and 9 missing in the Visayas and Mindanao which bore the brunt of the deluge. And it’s only just the beginning, there are many more destructive typhoons to come.
And whilst Mindanao and the Visayas was suffering, the Dutertes were either gallivanting or busy politicking; their fanatics sowing destabilisation against the very government that exposed their evil deeds.
What a state of affairs of Mindanao and its supposed leaders!
ON THIS DAY: PHILIPPINES WINS ARBITRAL CASE VS CHINA
Today, July 12, 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of The Philippines' historic win against China's massive claim in the South China Sea.
The landmark ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration invalidated Beijing’s nine-dash line demarcation that claimed vast maritime territory and islands in the South China Sea. The 501-page ruling was handed down in The Hague, Netherlands, more than three years after the case was filed by the Philippines in January 2013.
